Did anyone see the Nightline on Friday night, featuring Kerry? It was, actually, very good. Kerry did very well. Very presidential. And he had a great comeback for the question, "The Bush campaign speaks about how solemn and serious you are. How humorless." Kerry said something to the effect of, first, they can say anything about him they want to, he doesn't care. As for being humorless and not fun, he can have as much fun as the next guy at barbeques or whatever, just ask his kids and friends. As for being serious, these are serious times. It was a great response and had a lot of common sense woven into it. My mind visualized the jocular Bush while troops are getting legs blown off in Iraq. Yes, these are serious times.
Kerry was in Ohio. Ted Koppel spoke with some Ohio residents who had lost their jobs. They worked for a manufacturing firm that had hosted * last year. That company had since closed three plants. Those workers are now for Kerry. Koppel asked if they thought Kerry was pessimistic in speaking about the loss of jobs, etc. One guy replied something like, "That's not pessimism here. That's realism."
Kerry didn't try to be something he's not. It was, all in all, a great show, I thought. My sister in Louisiana, an Independent, said that show made her think more highly of Kerry and to be glad she's voting for him. She said she didn't just want to vote against *. She wanted to vote FOR someone. And that show helped her along on the path to voting FOR Kerry.
