18. That's unfair and untrue.

A Clinton caller phoned me and said she supports Clinton and is afraid of what would happen if "the other guy" got the nomination. She asked me if she could count on my support for Hillary. I said I respect Senator Clinton, but I am leaning toward the other guy. The caller then asked me whether this was because she is a woman.

How insulting and petty! Yet I would not let this incident or the nasty anti-Obama posts on DU form my opinion of those who believe that HRC is the best choice for president.

That said, it is Hillary's campaign that resembles a Republican campaign and damages the Democratic party. With my own unbelieving ears I heard Hillary say that McCain would make a fine president, but Obama only makes pretty speeches. The 3am ad is pure GOP fearmongering. And the misremembering of the sniper fire incident makes her incredibly vulnerable against the veteran / POW candidate. (The GOP ads would be like the swiftboat campaign, except that it would not have to be based on lies.)

Obama supporters, as a rule, do not wish to alienate any real Democrats any more than that phone bank twit wanted to make me resent Ms. Clinton. I do hope that we can get over this intra-party marital spat.

The CNN poll reflects what is seen here daily. A sizeable minority of Obama supporters here
a) won't vote for Hillary no matter what
b) actively encourage Hillary's supporters to leave the party in the same way they've forced them out of DU.

I notice that very few DU'ers are afraid to make the mirror-image speculation about Hillary's supporters. They don't ask if us HRC supporters are racists, because they already know.

Mostly older and rural/exurban Dem voters. Many will have their prejudices in the voting booth, and will go with McCain if Obama is the nominee. They might be sore if Hillary doesn't get the nom, and will take it out on Obama. Racism is still alive and well.

McCain getting into the 20s of registered Dems could very well happen.

Any poll taken during the primary is going to have responses that are based upon the perceived impact NOW on the primary of the responses. So you'll get a lot of people who are lying.

This poll proves only that this poll is not very reliable as an indicator of anything.
