Obama backers set sights on November (Pic of Gov. Patrick out registering voters!)

Senator Barack Obama's Massachusetts supporters began focusing their efforts on the November election yesterday, fanning out to busy areas in Boston to register voters, even as the candidate's Democratic primary campaign against Senator Hillary Clinton continued.

Governor Deval Patrick rallied about 100 volunteers at Roxbury's Reggie Lewis Center yesterday. The volunteers scooped up voter registration slips and chose MBTA stations, parks, and other spots to find unregistered voters.

Patrick, wearing blue jeans, stood outside the Back Bay T Station and registered potential voters, saying he wouldn't even object if some were Republicans.

"I think it's in the spirit of the campaign that if someone says, 'I want to register, but I'm going to register as a Republican,' you sign them up," he said.

Mayor Thomas M. Menino, a Clinton supporter, said he didn't think the Obama campaign was getting ahead of itself by preparing for the fall campaign.

"They have a comfortable lead, and I applaud them for going out to get people to vote," said Menino, who is not a superdelegate, but who will attend the Democratic convention as an add-on delegate pledged to Clinton based on her win in the state's primary.

"Whatever happens, we're going to work together to elect a Democrat," Menino said. The state has elected the Democratic presidential nominee in the last five elections.

1. Obama has to respond to McCain right away about Roberts vote
Obama said why he voted against Roberts and I couldn't agree more. He needs to make that statement heard everywhere, he will generate so much support and people will understand better who he is.

He said something like when you had the chance to defend those unable to or support the powerful, you chose the powerful and that is why I am voting against Roberts...

Obviously coming out of Harvard and choosing to work as a community organizer he knows something about choices and helping.

Make the case Obama team, it's good to be a liberal, we defend those unable to get heard!

5. As a white man.......
I feel threatened, the Blacks will be voting to overturn "our" values, when they elect the "terrorist Hamas" candidate...
Sarcasm totally mine. Good to get anyone registered that we can, Thats what OBAMA brings to the raise, an excitement. The kiddies have to actually show up and vote this November though.

17. Nice to know that Mass' Governor is a regular jeans guy on Saturdays
He's an impressive man!

I love his politics, let's hope he gets more done in Mass before President Obama needs him in DC!

11. No, I'm saying we'll elect Obama here in Mass, making it six in a row.
The odds of us going Republican here in Mass is slim to none. :)

7. How about he does his damn job instead of campaigning for Obama?
Edited on Sun May-11-08 09:59 AM by Marrah_G
Sorry but Patrick is a huge reason why I am not backing Obama and I am far from the only Mass resident who feels that way. Not going to be fooled twice by Mr. Axelrod. Hope, Change, Yes wen can/Together we can (get my book published). Identical campaigns. Same bullshit, different speech giver. I loved the guy, campaigned for him, bought into it all hook, line and sinker. Just like I see people doing now.

I have my flamesuit on so go at it.

14. Jilted HRC supporter
I'm from Mass, and proudly stand with Deval Patrick. His record as governor is a mixed bag. One of his huge problems, is the way our state government is arranged - the Speaker runs the state not the governor. DiMasi however, is on shaky ground now and may be on the way out soon thanks to a few scandals that have erupted around him.

Maybe a new speaker will be more compromising, but the seat of power tends to make that not so.

22. If you are going to try and speak for me sniffa, at least get it right.
Jilted Gore, Biden, Edwards, Clinton voter.

And after all the hope, unity, change, Together we can crap, Deval has been a huge let down.

I fell for that line of shit once, I won't fall for it again.

Good thing Deval was off in NYC working on his book deal during the casino vote right? The bill that was so damned important to him that he didn't even bother to show up an attempt to fight for it. His own million dollar book deal was more important.

I am truly sick of electing Governors here who just use our state as some damn stepping stone.

I would love to see Dimasi gone. I think he is an ass.

My point is that I see NOTHING of the hope, unity, change YES WE CAN!, stuff that he ran on.

You can fool me once.

I see Obama wrapped in the same pretty Axelrod paper that Deval was wrapped in.

Sorry but this is the way I feel and frankly the way alot of Deval supporters are feeling.

The book shit was the icing on the cake.

27. Here is why
He ran the exact same Axelrod campaign, right down to the speeches and slogans that Obama is. I fell for it all. I thought things would change here. Instead he has been a big disappointment. People will blame the legislature, but he should have known how tough it was going to be before he was elected, rather then promising the moon.

His latest little gaffe:

His big casino project, his pet project, the one he talked about all the time was obviously not that important to him or to our state. On the day it was voted on he wasn't at the House trying to get votes at the last minute. He wasn't even in the state. He was in NYC hocking his book.

I, like many Mass residents are really sick of people using our state as some sort of springboard for their careers.

If he wants to write his autobiography, how about waiting until AFTER he accomplishes something here?

It was infuriating, as someone who has such intense hope for him, to see shit like that.

Substance is far more important then the packaging.
