Why Didn't We See All the Threats of Party Switching When the Others Dropped?
Why do some Hillary Supporters so vehemently demand that we bend over to earn their support for the Democratic Nominee?

If it was issue based, I could understand. It seems to me that many are so wrapped up in the cult of personality that is Hillary, they cannot imagine themselves moving on. When Kucinich, Dodd, Biden, Richardson and Edwards dropped, I don't remember their strong supporters demanding others to beg for them to come around.

You are a Democrat or you are not. If you are a Democrat, you should be voting for the Democratic Nominee in November. We are not Obamacrats and Hillacrats. C'mon.

And, I have never met a Hillary Supporter in person who has threatened to leave or vote for McDubya.

If anyone is considering switching their support from Hillary to McDubya, go ahead, you have lost my respect and I will do nothing to engage you.

P.S. I am an Obama supporter who just got off of the phone with one such woman, whom I know quite well and, therefore, have no doubts about her sincerity.

35. You're delusional.
You invent all this 'sexism' and 'ageism' out of whole cloth, pretend that Obama supporters are hurling it at you and Clinton, and thus convince yourself of behavior that isn't there.

I've seen ONE example of Clinton's age being made an issue of, and Obama supporter condemned it, myself included.

So, let's see all this "Sexism". Examples please, I've learned not to hold my breath.

are you so intent on being offended by some people you don't respect that you're going to throw out Obama just because those loudmouths support him? i'd strongly urge you to reconsider what's at stake in this election for you and for all of us. I don't like the Obama rallies and fans and cheerleaders...that YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN! chanting business flat creeps me out. but frankly at this point he's the ONLY hope we've got for this country. and i will hope with all my heart that he'll earn all this wild-eyed adulation when I vote for him in the fall.

12. I think those who threaten to vote GOP
probably aren't really Dems (or Clinton supporters) to begin with. What I would suggest to true Clinton supporters is to vote Dem in November--and meanwhile send money to the Clinton campaign to help pay down debts. I know I donated to Kucinich right after he dropped out--didn't know if he needed to pay off debts, but DID know he'd need it for his primary challenge.

16. Because there is so much raw emotion behind this
And how can anyone here fail to understand it? Two people represent the possibility of a real breakthrough in American politics ... the first black or the first female American President. For a lot of people that represents a hope they did not expect, really, to manifest in their life time. Whichever side of that street you are on, there is a lot of emotional energy bound up in it. It is foolish, really, to expect anything else.

Wounds heal. Reason returns. The feelings behind the statements are more significant than the statements themselves. No need to pour gas on fires or salt on bleeding sores.

18. I believe the wounds heal, and that any real Democrat will vote
for the Dem in the Fall. That goes for Dems in MI and FL, as well.

I think the claim is used as a wedge issue. Hillary or nobody is just foolish and is a gas fire in itself. I've heard enough.

And I think others are so emotionally invested they can't think things through clearly just yet. I know IRL a couple of people who are that way. In time, their heads will clear and they will do what they know is the right thing. But right now, there is no real resoning with them.

A sane and rational answer, surrounded by it's own examples. So many are too caught up in their cause right now to step back from their emotional involvement and think critically.

Thanks for adding some common sense and objectivity!

17. because for some Hillary Clinton is the Jackie Robinson for women
She is the historical figure that will finally make it clear that women have total equality. Obama could be the VP and be President in 8 years and everybody could have everything.

It is a strange transference but for some the 'feminist' movement has become the 'womanist' movement.

42. I know plenty of Hillary supporters
in my local Dem club, where I am very active. Last week, the largest group of them told me they thought, to their dissapointment, that Hillary was pretty much toast, but they were ready to get behind Obama and work hard to get him elected.

I think what you're seeing here are people who have been in some nasty internet arguments and feeling bruised and offended from them. The internet is a rough place to argue, since there is no face to face, things can get very nasty. Offline, in normal life, I'm not seeing this attitude from Hillary (or ex-Hillary) supporters. And once the campaign becomes Obama-McCain, instead of Hillary-Obama, I think a whole lot of them will be coming back to the fold. The realization that a McCain presidency is a very real possibility will probably be enough for most of them.

43. I saw a great explanation of this the other day
here on DU and I can't remember all of it, but the part that struck me was that her supporters have engaged in an "overidentification" with her. Anything that is said to her, is said to them. Anything that is done to her, is done to them. They are her, and she is them.

It's really unhealthy. A loss of boundaries, if you will.

45. I wasn't sure I was going to vote after Edwards dropped.
This was back in the middle of the whole McClurkin thing and I was pretty pissed at Obama still. Meanwhile, the entire primary process has, for me, been an extended case of Anybody But Hillary, so she was right out to begin with. At that point I probably would have left the top of the ballot blank and voted downticket.

Over the last couple of Obama vs. Hillary months, I've come to a point where I can bring myself to vote for Obama. He's not perfect, but he's a damn sight better than either Hillary or McCain.

So, I suppose I can understand the people who claim they'll vote for McCain rather than have their vote "be wrong" after all they've gone through. People like to think they make good choices, and they like to back winners. I figure that, like the Obama vs Hillary months brought me around, the Obama vs McCain months will bring them around. I really don't think we'll hemorrhage voters like the doomsayers are claiming.

Of course, if anyone who says they'll vote for McCain rather than Obama actually DOES SO, they need to get their head examined. Srsly.
