4. I like this debate. All doing well!
They ALL come across today. Except for Lieberman- riding too much on Clinton. Someone needs to tell the DLC to get a clue. Clinton is not in vogue this election and this should be apparent to them with all the time we spend talking about the disastrous effects of NAFTA/WTO

A+ to all of them. All making sense. (well with the normal caveat, minus 1)

years.

I guess that the correct answer is to LIE and say that you can balance the budget in 6-7 months. So much for realistic and honest answers!

Jeebuz. Ask the other candidates how long it would take them to undo the damage done by bush and balance the budget.

15. Kucinich - Health Plan
Q. Wouldn't all those people in Iowa in Health Care industry lose their jobs because of your plan?

No they wouldn't lose their jobs, we need their expertise to process all that paperwork

Apria Health $16 million
Anthem $15.8 million

Health Care execs miling system and people not getting care

Health Care needs to be number 1 domestic priority

will lead to single payer universal health care for all as President.

80. Great answer
I work in the Health Insurance industry and that's what I told my co-workers one day. We should be for a single-payor system. They'd still need us to process claims and we'd get better pay and benefits working for the government. What's not to like?

The only people that would suffer would be the insurance executives like Dennis pointed out. Good job Dennis!!

31. About Dean getting laughed at
after stating he'd have the budget balanced in his 6th or 7th year of office...

I think Dean made a mistake by telling an impatient American audience the truth about how long it would take to undo Bush's damage. People want to hear that the budget will be balanced by next year, not almost two terms from now. Unfortunately, the public showed their immaturity when they chose to laugh at a politician with the balls to tell the truth. I guess its best to talk in circles and never tell the truth about how long it will take to get certain things done.

Dean said he expected to be the nominee in a debate last summer and got a similar laugh.

I think the antiDeans here are making a big deal about this. People laughed when the moderator made a comment about Kerry talking over, but you don't see candidate supporters making a big deal about this.

40. Kucinich - Child Care
child care providers not certified and teachers for youngsters too

Says he introduced legislation for full access to free child care 5 days a week so young kids could get early reading skills, care, proper nutrition.

This program would cost $60 billion which can easily be funded with the 15% cut from the Pentagon's wasteful spending

Bush budget cutting funds and education will be cut again so we can't afford this mess in Iraq which has already cost us $155 million so far
or to continue with the Pentagon's $400 million/yr expanding budget. We need to get out of Iraq now so we can rescue our domestic capabilities.

A+

65. I just started watching...
...will have to rewatch from the beginning, but seems a better debate. More civil, better moderators, actually talking about policy proposals. They just cut off Edwards, but I think he had a good point going. Just because someone enters Washington doesn't make them bad or good, it's what they do with their time there.

CMB is tearing up a rug right now. I admit, I really like her. I don't know that she's viable as the top of a ticket, but she's be great in a Democratic administration. She does a good job of keeping it real and civil.

Dennis now talking about getting out of Iraq.

short list for VP
come on, let's honor the spirit of our campaign and show some guts. She should be on the shgort list for VP.
The repugs would put Condy there in a minute and show us up for our gutlessness if they could get rid of Dick Cheney.

71. Kind of funny
The other 8 are actually attacking each other as much or more as they are Dean. Only Edwards is staying out of it to any extent, but even he is stepping in to correct misleading statements by others. Dean is able to sit back and look Presidential while the others squabble. Priceless.

The story so far:

Lieberman - looks like an angry gnome, talking like a Republican
Kucinich - saying good thinsg which will unfortuantely be forgotten by the end of the debate. Is looking much more collected these days.
Gephardt - Attacking everyone. Looking desperate and scared. Want to make it him against Dean, but cannot make anything stick.
Kerry - Saying the same damn thing, in the same damn tone, with the same damn expression as he has all year. Kerry, thy name is irrelevent.
CMB - Looking good. Saying great things, as always.
Edwards- looks GREAT today. Seems totally reasonable and very positive.
Dean - Looks Presidential, collected, calm, and cool. Deflecting all attacks without breaking a sweat. He is already the winner iun this debate, simply by virtue of staying above the dirty efforts of Gephardt and Lieberman.
Clark - absent. And irrelevent in this. he may as well not exist as far as this debate goes. he killed himself by sitting it out.
Sharpton- absent, why?

Braun and Edwards are on fire.

Dean seems to be ignored (except by Lieberman and Gep).

They are all doing a better job of beating up on Bush and supporting each other. Keep it up guys and gal.

81. This format is much better than any I've seen.
I don't know who this moderator is, but he's worlds better than the ego driven pretty faces we've seen up to now. None of the silliness of before and lots of time allowed to the candidates both to respond to personal charges from opponents and to lay out their own positions clearly.

It helps a lot that their focusing on issues. Koppel should go to school.

are Iowans public broadcasters, not some corporate shill.

I think for each debates on the states, they should do it the same way the Iowans did.. and doing it EXTREMELY well.

(allow me a moment for a small sigh of relief)

Ahhhhhh.

Ok, I'm much more sanguine over the notion that he might AND I REPEAT, MIGHT be the nominee. I confess, I tuned in mostly to see how he would handle himself if it turned into a "beat on Dean" session. So far, it hasn't really been that, although there's been a few shots taken. But he's doing well.

93. Dean responded about Iraq...
...and I'd like to point out that he tried to clarify the misrepresentation of DKs position, stating that DK wasn't proposing a pullout, he just wanted it to be more gradual in transition than what DK advocated (i.e. it isn't cut and run).

Lieberman is speaking now, and I'm falling asleep.

Question about achievement gap to CMB.

95. Dean re Iraq occupation vs Kucinich's plan to leave
saying Al-Queda is in Iraq now and we can't pull out now which is a US national security problem so need occupation, then build Iraqi govt/infrastructure and then leave

Kudos to him for adding that Kucinich is not saying to pull out and leave a vacuum but to bring the UN in and let the rebuilding be doen under UN auspices vs US.

...to attack Kucinich. Dean is now saying that he will vigorously support the Democratic nominee, asks for a show of hands, and they ALL SHOW HANDS! WAY TO GO!

I know it was a trick question, and the moderators said he was a "facilitator", nice back and forth. I'll look for the looks on faces when I watch the replay. Haha...
