In 1968, RFK said, "...a Negro could be President in 40 years..."
Edited on Sun Jun-08-08 07:59 PM by jenmito
On MTP this morning, Tim Russert showed this from The Washington Post: "Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy told the world that the United States-despite Alabama violence-is moving so fast in race relationa a Negro could be President in 40 years. ...'There is no question about it,' the Attorney General said. 'In the next 40 years a Negro can achieve the same position that my brother has.'...Kennedy said that prejudice exists and probably will continue to make progress and we are making progress. ...We are not going to accept the status quo."

How 'bout that?!

3. May 24, 1963.
Russert had the date wrong. There is another thread on this; also, I posted an essay on it last week. I used numerous sources that document the date.

Maybe he got the date wrong because he then played a clip of him talking in '68.

8. Ever read "Brothers" ,jenmito?
By David Talbot. One hell of a read. The Kennedy boys were fascinating, to say the least.

15. No, but maybe I will...
My father was telling me all about him, how he went to see him speak "off the cuff" and how Obama reminds him of him.

Magazine on DU saying that quote..but, I can't find it on the net now.

It was around the time of Martin Luther King's birthday and it was on an Obama thread:)
