Poll question: Let's make it interesting: How about Kathleen Sebelius vs. Hillary Clinton for Vice President?

Between the two, which would you prefer? (Sorry, but I'm not putting "other" in the poll).

But I've heard tons of speeches from her that I thought kicked ass. And if you get a chance to see any of her Governor's debates... All I have to say is, DAMN. :wow:

She's a Democratic governor of Kansas, a state that has twice the number of registered Republicans than registered Democrats, who won election and re-election by large margins... and Obama is running on unification and cross-the aisle appeal to a large degree.

Figure it out.

(Also, one of Time's top 5 governor's in the country in 2005. One of the White House Project's list of 8 most likely women in the country to become President herself. Was speculated on as a Kerry running mate 4 years ago...)

And the promise of more gaffes by the ticket.

Remember Obama's 10,000 victims gaffe in reference to the Greensburg tornado?

27. so that makes them somehow less important?
anyway, if "not having been beaten like a dead horse" is your criteria for comparing "gaffes", there are still plenty to choose from. No-one can say with a straight face that there is more "dirt quotes" or "gaffes" out there to throw at Sebelius than there are to throw at Hillary. You and I both know the opposite is true.

28. The point is, all that crap is built in to her numbers already.
She is a known quantity.

Yes. Hillary's gaffes are WAY less important than that of Governor Sebelius.

Hillary could take all the change out of the Salvation Army kettle at Christmas-time, and that would change her Fav/UnFav like 1 point.

Clinton? She went on to win many more contests. (And 6 out of the last 9!)

11. I prefer Sebelius to Clinton -- but Sen Boxer has LOTS of foreign policy experience, & is ...
in her own way, a very charismatic politician, apt to really energize a mass public. I really don't know enough about Sebelius to have even an inclination at this point, but polls showing her as a drag on hypothetical tickets (which obviously could be mainly the result of name-recognition issues) do worry me.

14. I would prefer Boxer to Hillary as well...
But once agreed on the better candidate, I think name recognition will be dealt with once the media has a story. In fact, the LESS well known the candidate is, the more potential for coverage.

15. Let me say this in defense of Clinton -
picking Sebelius over Clinton would be a slap in the face to her, after she fought so hard for the nomination. It would certainly not sit well with her supporters.

That said, I don't want either of them on the ticket.

16. This argument buys into the notion that "There can be only ONE..."
woman to choose from in an election cycle. Flat out, this is a completely indefensible position. I'd love to see even one supporter try to prop up a feminist argument that has this position. Can't do it.

Just imagine if we did this with men. "Well, it would be a slap in the face to John Edwards and his supporters if Obama picked another male candidate instead of him..."

17. I know full well the argument is indefensibe; BUT
that doesn't mean Hillary's supporters would understand. It's emotional with them.

Besides, Sebelius puts me to sleep every time I hear her talk. I don't want a woman on the ticket just to put a woman on the ticket and that's the buzz I'm getting.

We need an outspoken attack dog to pair with Obama.

20. "It's emotional with them" will pretty much doom their argument as well...
Seriously, anyone who utters this nonsense can EASILY be convinced of the stupidity of this argument. It buys into the worse stereotypes of women.

Now regarding Sebelius putting you to sleep, perhaps that's a valid point, although I actually love her speaking style. I think its a great contrast to Obama.

41. I thought that when she did the response to the SOTU all she did
was talk about compromising with Republicans. Maybe she has to in Kansas, but I thought this ticket was supposed to be different.

I wasn't familiar with her before that, so it's the only thing I really have to go on about her (other than the fact that she was a Bilderberger attendee last year and apparently will be this year as well, which also doesn't speak to the change meme), but I thought her response was really, really week and her delivery was terrible. There have been bad responses before - I thought Gary Locke's a few years ago was bad, and he was currently the governor of the state I live in - but hers really stood out. I'd say that her opening statements made it sound as if her identification with the Democratic party was tenuous at best.

49. Not even close - a woman who basically married her way into power and has never run anything more
significant than an office of Senate staffers, vs. a woman who actually ran on her own merits, won, and has run a state government in a manner that even her opponents concede has been well above par? It's not even close: Governor Sebelius in a walk.
