Y'know, the media did dick over Hillary
Sure, a lot of it was her doing. A LOT of it was.

But once the media started 'open season', there wasn't much left to do but implode.

I'm an Obama supporter, always have been - and he's blameless. The talking heads, however, are not blameless.

1. They were both attacked
Hillary wasn't the only one who was attacked by the media. What they did to her didn't approach the level of all of the Rev Wright attacks (which Hillary joined in on).

That's clear

But you have to admit the media never liked her.

As another poster pointed out, they both were attacked. Obama came out alive, Hillary did not. The next Dem has to face the corporate controlled media.

5. I think she gained more than she lost
One solid month of Wright wasnt done to benefit Obama .......or McCain either.

The GOP would have probably wanted to wait for the GE to use Wright against Obama.

So that leaves just one who stood to benefit.

17. She often managed the media to her benefit, for example...
If anyone was watching, one night she appeared on Larry King Live and Keith Olbermann.

The first three questions were near exactly the same, the very first related to gas prices and an opportunity to spin her gas tax holiday.

That's not a coincidence. I was surprised that KO let her do that.

In any case, I don't think she had it any worse than Obama, not by a long shot.

11. Because when it became obvious...
...that keeping Hillary in the race for as long as possible was to McCain's benefit Fox suddenly became her cheerleader. And Terry and his ilk had no problem praising them for it and lending them credibility in all else they do in the process. I still can't believe that asshat actually VOUCHED for their "fair and balanced" propaganda.

10. The media dicks over *everyone*.
It gets ratings, they live for it. They most certainly did not do it to Clinton to greater degree than they did to Obama. They hammered Wright harder than any other issue in this campaign bar none... by like an order of magnitude. And I did not once see Obama complaining about the racist media out to get him while everywhere you turned leading into Ohio, and PA, and NC you heard all about how Clinton was neck and neck and this close to turning it around and grabbing the momentum when it was a practical mathematic impossibility for her to win already. And why were they doing that? Neck and neck races get them.... say it with me... ratings.

That is the be all and end all of television "journalism" everywhere except Foxland where it's "toe the party line... while you try to get ratings" and anyone who thinks differently is deluding themslves.

19. That's not what the most reputable study (Pew) says.
http://journalism.org/node/11266
<snip>

From January 1, just before the Iowa caucuses, through March 9, following the Texas and Ohio contests, the height of the primary season, the dominant personal narratives in the media about Obama and Clinton were almost identical in tone, and were both twice as positive as negative, according to the study, which examined the coverage of the candidates’ character, history, leadership and appeal—apart from the electoral results and the tactics of their campaigns.

The trajectory of the coverage, however, began to turn against Obama, and did so well before questions surfaced about his pastor Jeremiah Wright. Shortly after Clinton criticized the media for being soft on Obama during a debate, the narrative about him began to turn more skeptical—and indeed became more negative than the coverage of Clinton herself. What’s more, an additional analysis of more general campaign topics suggests the Obama narrative became even more negative later in March, April and May.

<snip>

Read the whole thing.

34. It was a perfect storm
Sexism + Her Iraq War vote + Terry McAuliffe being himself + Bill Clinton

Remember, she came close - very close. All it needed was the perfect storm of negatives.

As far as the media goes, they were pretty sexist - especially Tweety and Steffi (George Stephonapolis)

I still think the right person won - but one has to admit the media was pretty biased.

25. The same media also declared her the winner before the first primary
And if you look at how people voted, I don't think people give a rats but about the media when it comes to making a decision. people decided who they were going to vote for reguardless of the media. During the onslaught of Rev Wright Nonsense my support for Barack never wavered. And I am sure when Hillary made her Historical Primary reference, the only people who were detered were people who were never going to vote for her anyway.

So I don't think the media matters. And it's clear Hillary did pull a crappy trick, she blacked out her audience so they didn't know the results, Terry introduced her as the next POTUS
and she never even at the very least congratulate him on his win in Montana. That night she acted as if she was still running, even though it was clear the race was over. it was weird and that's what the media was discussing, the oddity of it.

26. When HRC decided to go full out kitchen sink negative, she said

something to the effect "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen". And her supporters crowed along with her. When that didn't work, when it backfired because people were repelled, she and her supporters turned into historical revisionists and professional victims, claiming that the very techniques that she and her campaign used were used against her, while at the same time claiming she and her campaign were clean.

That HRC campaign procedure of claiming, when people reacted negatively to her negative and dog-whistle attacks, that it was she who was victim, esp. of "sexist discrimination" but also of "reverse racism" etc., brought out the worst in me. And since this fundamentally dishonest tactic still hasn't ceased, and clearly it never will, it will never stop angering me.

33. Live by the media die by the media
The reason the media warmed up to Obama is because he had a very open attitude to the media giving them access in ways that McCain and Hilary never did. Hillary on the other hand practiced very controlled media access, that was reminiscent of Bush/Rove. The media at the end of the day is human and reluctant to bite the hand that feeds it.

45. KO was used by MSNBC to make Obama look mean to Hillary. His bosses should have reined him in.
They should have told him he looked like a bully and that he would help Obama more if he seemed kinder and gentler in his criticism of Clinton. I know women who are steamed over Olbermann who used to like him. They think he took his marching orders from Obama, when in fact he is a corporate employee who does what he does for MSNBC. They might not have told him to be as aggressive as he was, but they sure could have advised him that he was overdoing it if he really wanted to be of maximum benefit for Obama in the long run. People like Rachel Maddow and Eugene Robinson could make the same points without looking like they had personal grudges.

Tonight Keith was back to normal. I expect him to stay that way. Thank God we are in the GE now.
