Time for Americans to denounce and reject Fox Noise

Time for Fox News to apologize (again)

Posted June 12th, 2008 at 9:15 am

This week, Fox News’ E.D. Hill was forced to apologize for her on-air assessment that a fist-bump between Barack and Michelle Obama might have been a “terrorist fist jab.” A few weeks ago, Fox News’ Liz Trotta suggested on the air that someone should “knock off” the Democratic presidential candidate.

I’m thinking it might be time for yet another apology from the least-reliable name in television “news.” The estimable Alex Koppelman has the story:

During a segment discussing conservative attacks against Michelle Obama, the wife of presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama, the network described the former as “Obama’s baby mama.”

I checked, and sure enough, as you can see below, our e-mailer was right. In fact, that description was displayed on screen several times during the segment, which featured anchor Megyn Kelly and conservative blogger Michelle Malkin, an FNC contributor.
Sure enough, here it is. (I’d recommend watching with the sound turned down; the offensive part was on the chyron, which reads: “Outraged Liberals: Stop Picking on Obama’s Baby Mama!”)

more

So here’s the thing (because during this campaign I’m apparently learning that we black people have our own secret code and hand signals so this stuff has to be explained like you are speaking to a child at times), using the phrase “baby mama” to describe this woman implies that like too many people in the black community, she is a mother on her own with no man around doing his job.

Except, Barack and Michelle Obama are the exact opposite of this, and that is one of the reason America - especially black America - are so proud of them.

But Fox News is the network that tears down those who do not toe the line, and if that means they should resort to jive to describe a black woman as a “baby mama” despite the strength of her family and her own personal success, so be it.

Screw you guys.

3. At the very least the FCC should excercise the function they exist for
And pull their broadcast license for anything claiming to be a news program.

4. Calm down.
I wouldn't get outraged by this. When Sen. Obama was elected to the Senate, Michelle Obama called him her "baby's daddy" when she was introducing him for his victory speech.

Don't take the bait. Fox News wants people to feign outrage over this.

5. "Calm down"? Oh yeah: No worries,
it's a black thing? What does what Michelle Obama said have to do with Fox Noise's characterization?

No one has to feign outrage over this or any other incident involving Fox.

6. I disagree Ren Man
Fox has been irresponsible for quite some time.

Their reputation is such that you cannot rely upon them to factual report on potential health and physical dangers.

The nasty smears and innuendos are also nothing new.

Because of current events, Barack Obama is a well they will visit time and time again. Note the short span of time between the three most recent THAT we've heard about.

I'm not outraged by the two recent attacks. It is just apparent that they will give a half-assed apology and repeat their action within days and weeks. Their boldness to continue and increase the BS in spite of public outrage, says something else needs to be done.

That's where I am at this point.

7. Fox SVP issues statement
Now, Fox Senior Vice President of Programming Bill Shine has put out a statement saying that “a producer on the program exercised poor judgment in using this chyron during the segment.”
