The Daily Apology from Faux News: Baby mama
Fox addresses baby mama drama: Producer used 'poor judgment'

Since Salon's Alex Koppelman caught Fox News characterizing Michelle Obama as "Obama's Baby Mama," there's been an uproar over use of such an offensive term.

“A producer on the program exercised poor judgment in using this chyron during the segment,” Fox's Senior Vice President of Programming Bill Shine said in a statement to Politico.

In addition to being insulting, the phrase "baby mama" is also inaccurate. The Urban Dictionary defines "baby mama" as"the mother of your child(ren), whom you did not marry and with whom you are not currently involved."

Although Shine doesn't name anyone responsible, the show's producer is Jessica Herzberg. A Fox staffer said that others internally were bothered by describing the potential first lady and very accomplished women — as the senator's "baby mama."

Unfortunately for the network, this comes just days after Fox's E.D. Hill addressed her use of the phrase "terrorist fist jab" on-air in reference to the famous Michelle-Barack fist bump (or pound) made just before his celebratory speech in St. Paul.

1. I saw this story but if you notice 'they made a statement to politico"
I don't see anyone else they sent a statement to.

2. I sent a complaint e-mail about that.

3. Fox must hate familes. They can't use the word wife?
Fox must not have gotten the memo that the Democrats are taking over.

4. Let's make a list of the FuxNews fuck-ups they've had to apologize for so far...
1. Liz Trotta Wants Barack Assassinated Gate.
2. Terrorist Fist Jab Gate
3. Baby's Mama Gate.

Did I miss any? Bear in mind, these are only the fuck-ups they have actually "apologized" for. Plenty more they should apologize for.

23. Bill O'Reilley talked about *lynching* Michelle Obama.
He said he'd wait to make sure he had all the facts straight before he got the lynch party together.

Damned white of him.

6. The producer would not have used that term
if she did not believe it was acceptable. The same goes for E.D. Hill. There is a culture at Fox that encourages such statements and terminology, that is the bottom line.

12. Chyron?
Did they use it in the crawl at the bottom of the screen, or was it verbalized? Did it come out of some foul mouth at Faux news? Are they trying to minimize this? Did someone here see or hear it? Either way, they need to put away the thesaurus and issue a real apology.

It was verbalized and written on the screen. I believe the salon article linked had a screenshot of it.

Pretty low.

16. I thought that that picture was charming.
It just showed the wonderful mutual respect and affection.

Leave it to Faux News to take a beautiful moment and trash it. What kind of DumbFuckistani would say to himself, "Oh, a terrorist fist-jab. I'm not going to vote for him now!" Sickening.

The position of my text may have been misleading.

20. it is the standard GOP tactic of chortling derisively at anything perceived as "black" in culture
Edited on Thu Jun-12-08 04:10 PM by TexasObserver
They have two themes: (1) "Look what these uppity (elitist) negroes are up to," and (2) "look what the ghetto negroes are up to." They want to drive home the dual themes of "he's uppity" and "he's ghetto." Truth or decency is not a factor. The GOP is a racist organization.

Remember O'Reilly's shock at the "normalcy" of a restaurant in Harlem.

Discussing his recent dinner with Rev. Al Sharpton at the Harlem restaurant Sylvia's, Bill O'Reilly reported that he "couldn't get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia's restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City. I mean, it was exactly the same, even though it's run by blacks, primarily black patronship." O'Reilly added: "There wasn't one person in Sylvia's who was screaming, 'M-Fer, I want more iced tea.' "

26. To racist whites, blacks are damned if they and damned in they don't.
They're damned if they do adopt the language and dress of the white culture, and they're damned if they don't.

putting it mildly.
Disgusting.

On edit: just went to the Faux "news" website and searched "apology baby mama" and got zippo, so apparently they have not issued any kind of formal statement through that means.
They need to go WAY beyond a 'statement to Politico.' They need to apologize PERSONALLY to Senator Obama and his WIFE and they need to apologize to the public and they need to shitcan anyone involved with this, including Malkin, who's one of the sleaziest people on Faux, and that's saying something.
