Did Barack Obama get prime time coverage on the Networks for his speech?
I actually don't recall because I watched everything on C-Span. Now I'm sure that Fox/CNN/MSNBC covered it (with all the shrills overtop) but did ABC/NBC/CBS show Obama's speech?

The reason I'm asking is this - If they didn't show Obama's keynote speech then the better not show Zell Miller's (if he is really the keynote address speaker).

And believe me, if I find out the above is true, I'm going on a hellbender rampage on the Networks if I find out they didn't show a young, articulate future leader of this country vs. an democratic idiot who has a grudge against his own party because he wasn't given a cabinet position in the Clinton administration (the reason, some say, to why Miller first became anti-democrat)

9. No, He Spoke on the Night They Didn't Show ANYONE
And even if they had started up at 10:00 like the other nights, his speech was at like 9:30 or 9:40.

3. Oh hell no...
He wasn't on during that magical "one whole hour" they so generously gave the nation trying to decide who should lead this country.

6. Networks Limit Themselves By Time, Not Schedule
They are going to go to whatever will get most ratings.

7. The Repubs are getting as little time as the Dems
Three total hours, I believe. It's pretty ridiculous.

11. CBS/NBC/ABC did NOT even show that one hour on Tuesday.
not in the NYC metro area, anyway.

If I remember, they couldn't even be bothered to show for ONE F**KING HOUR that Tuesday night.

(I watched it on PBS - they were showing everything from 8pm-11pm. And they had bits and pieces before prime time and after)

13. It was the Party's choice...
Edited on Thu Aug-19-04 10:14 AM by RossMcLochNess
on who to show during the coverage not the networks. If they had wanted Obama's speech with network coverage, it would have been up to the party to schedule it during the time slot. You can put your guns down! ;)

15. And to me that was the biggest mistake the DNC made..
By making sure Obama's speech was on Prime-Time; thank god the word of mouth was so strong that he speech was the talk of the convention anyway..

16. But, in the DNC's defense...
Obama wasn't a "household name" until AFTER he got done speaking. Sure, it turned out that he gave the best speech of the whole convention but putting a candidate, not even an incumbent but a candidate, on a prime time slot would certainly have raised quite a few eyebrows and it totally goes against conventional wisdom. If you allow me to Monday Morning Quarterback here for a minute, I totally agree with you though that its a shame it wasn't prime time. But I can also totally see where the DNC was coming from.

18. I think Obama's word of mouth prior to the convention...
was such that they should have had an inkling how powerful he was as a speaker, though.

All and all though, it's a very minor complaint from me..

17. A theory - networks WILL show much more of the RNC than DNC
The networks will show significantly more of the RNC than the DNC.

Why? They will say it's because of the Left's outcry of the lack of coverage of the DNC convention.

The networks will claim that such a fuss was made of the lack of coverage that they will try to remedy that by showing much more of the RNC, thereby giving a 2004 definition to PROPAGANDA.

Maybe you should join me. That speech moved me like no other and deserves to be heard.
