McCain's T-Shirts marked half price at Texas GOP convention-He was a no-show
McCain absence annoys some at GOP gathering

HOUSTON -- John McCain is ignoring 7,000 Texas Republicans this weekend.

Some of them are returning the favor.

Instead of speaking to the state party convention this weekend, McCain will come to Texas on Monday to raise money at a Dallas barbecue.

"Where is he?" asked Sara Fischer, 31, of Mansfield, brushing past a volunteer futilely trying to pass out McCain lapel stickers."I didn't support McCain," she said. "But I have to now. He's our candidate. It seems like he should be here."

Inside the exhibit hall, the McCain T-shirts at one souvenir stand were marked down from $15 to $8 -- two for $15.

Fischer, the conventioneer who didn't want a McCain sticker, said she supported Huckabee.

"Huckabee is funny," she said. "He's seems like my dad. McCain seems like the old uncle that you have to bring to holiday parties."

Her biggest complaint is that she hasn't seen enough of McCain. The extended Democratic campaign has resulted in two months of free publicity for Obama.

"Obama is a much more appealing candidate to people my age," she said. "He has better ads and better music. ... McCain hasn't been on TV at all. I really don't know anything about him, except that he was in Vietnam."

And that he wasn't in Texas.

Early-onset Alzheimer's has been known to develop between ages 30 and 40, but that's exceedingly rare. It is more common to see someone in their 50s who has the disease. The poster probably meant early stages...you read her post correctly and responded to what she wrote.....

is forgetful of where he has placed things.... I'd call it old age, but I guess with tests they can determine these things... He's on medication to slow the mushing of his brain...

39. As will I. My father-in-law had Parkinson's, but in the end, all the brain degenerative diseases
seem to have symptoms that are very similar. My heart goes out to you. It will be hard on your grandmom, too, and they both will need a lot of support. If it is like my husband's family, the older spouse caregiver loses perspective and has unrealistic expectations. My mother-in-law was in denial. My husband finally had to step in and take the carkeys away from his dad because his mom wouldn't do it. And we ultimately had to have assistance. One thing to be aware of that we didn't know (and I know all this should probably in another post/thread, so sorry)is to ask your Grandfather's doctor to recommend something called home health care. At no cost to your grandparents, a whole team of professionals will be dispatched to assess your grandparents on an ongoing basis. In our case, there was a male who came in to bathe my father-in-law; physical therapists who observe and make recommendations, they will question the couple to help in the assessment. It truly is a wonderful service that I wish we had known about earlier in another family situation.

It's hard to lose someone little by little, and my husband was not prepared the first time his Dad did not know him. It is a heartwrenching experience. I would recommend reading about the disease to see what to expect, and to look for support groups. Peace.

people older than him think he's too old and not fit for the job... well, perhaps we should listen to the their wisdom.. Poppa also says because he was a POW, he's mentally unfit to lead this country.

King went over the case for McCain: "He's very strongly pro-life. He's strong on defense. I feel confident in his Supreme Court nominees. But he's not as strong on immigration as I want and not the fiscal conservative we need."

Texas is GOP country outside of the major cities, however Ron Paul, Huckabee and Bob Barr

I wished Ron Paul and Bob Barr would get together and split the vote in Texas.

Edited on Sat Jun-14-08 11:48 AM by Eric J in MN
Obama wasn't at the Democratic-Farmer-Labor convention in Rochester, Minnesota earlier this month.

But Obama held a big rally in Minneapolis early this year and a big rally in St. Paul on the night he clinched it, and so he's not ignoring us.

but as you pointed out, Obama isn't ignoring your state. I wonder how often McCain gets to Texas? That's a huge electorate to be ignoring. Not that Obama has a chance there, but you'd think that McCain would want to court them. God forbid he wins the election, he'll need to be on their good side in 2012.

That isn't the same as a rally like Obama has, but I don't know if McCain could attract a crowd like Obama had in St. Paul (17,000 inside plus 15,000 outside) even if McCain wanted to.
