VP announcement timing: Looks like the week of August 4 to me
With Obama's overseas trip set for the week of July 21 and the two-week long summer Olympics starting on August 8, I'd bet the VP announcement comes at the start of the week of August 4.

Seems to me Obama wouldn't want to step on the impact of the overseas trip by announcing his VP the following week. Also, he can stay more relevant (and get the mechanics of a joint campaign down prior to the convention) by announcing his VP choice prior to the Olympics.

Thoughts?

2. That too...I'd prefer he didn't
but it seems if it doesn't happen before 8/8 we're looking at the convention.

3. I'd prefer it if
Obama waited for McCain to announce. The day after, preferably. Then we could destroy all the newspeople talk about how McCain's choice of Lieberman is absolutely brilliant and will make him beat Obama by 20 points and win all 50 states. Bleh.

5. That's what I heard was the plan. But on this site a lot is conjecture.

8. well, of course the problem is that the GOP convention is after ours so McCain
could wait until after our convention where we would have to name the VP-first.

4. My guess is a bit earlier
probably very soon after he returns from the trip.

7. I think he will wait until just before the convention
with his European tour and then the olympics it makes sense to wait--there really is no rush on naming a VP.
