13% of people believe Obama is a Muslim
But it's not a problem for Obama, why?

Because twice as many approve of Bush's job as President

Around that same number believe Saddam was behind 9/11

And about that same number believe WMD was found in Iraq

---------------

So what we have here is the same stupid people giving the same stupid answer. Nothing Obama can do or say will change their beliefs because they don't believe anything besides what the far RW tells them.

3. I console myself with the thought that these are the same cretins every time.
The idea that they are different groups of people who are imbeciles on different issues (and collectively comprise the entire population of the United States) fills me with a dread I haven't the words to express.

4. People like Anderson Cooper and others say it may be a problem for Obama
But there's no doubt in my mind that if the RW smears were that Obama is an atheist then 13% of people polled would say he is an atheist.

16. Exactly...it's not but the RW knows a lot of Americans are scared and fearful of Muslims
Edited on Mon Jul-14-08 09:41 PM by cbc5g
And they'll use fear and hate like in past elections to drive their supporters to the polls.

27. I agree. And truthfully, I'd do the same thing if they asked similar questions
about McCain. Like if the question was "Do you believe John McCain is a Satanist?," I'd answer "Yes."

(I'm not saying Islam is at all similar to Satanism, but some idiots think they're equivalent.)

13. Sort of explains how we got Bush twice.
There is some type of mental disconnect . This is not a mental deficient, but a deficient of judgment and processing abilities. Makes you wonder what is in the water in certain areas. :sarcasm:

But I really believe what we have is low information voters who have hooked into talk radio, and once those pathways have been seared into the brain, it is hard to get people to see beyond that. The talking heads by using tactics such as screaming have seared these ideas in with a jolt of adrenalin. Their points of view are tied up in their emotions.

All you can do is do exactly what Obama has done on the net, keep beating them over the head with the truth.

It may not change the minds of the parents, but it may free the next generation.

17. It was 10%
FALSE beliefs are everywhere. Eighteen percent of Americans think the sun revolves around the earth, one poll has found. Thus it seems slightly less egregious that, according to another poll, 10 percent of us think that Senator Barack Obama, a Christian, is instead a Muslim. The Obama campaign has created a Web site to dispel misinformation. But this effort may be more difficult than it seems, thanks to the quirky way in which our brains store memories — and mislead us along the way.

19. I'm inclined to believe what one of the guests on Countdown said tonight.
He thinks a lot of the people who are responding that they think Barack is a Muslim, trained in a Muslim school, and sworn into the Senate on the Koran just don't like him for whatever reason and they're just lying to the pollsters.

22. If Jesus personally appeared to each one and said "Obama is a not a Muslim," ...
... they'd still say "sorry, Jesus, but I got an email from my great aunt Mabel, and she said he is a Muslim, and quoted some retired military reserve officer."

Edited on Mon Jul-14-08 11:35 PM by larissa
One of the pundits on MSNBC or CNN (I forget which one, I was channel surfing this evening) said to put it some perspective..

...you have to remember how many idiots think that the world is flat...

Or how many of the ditzoids think the earth is only 5,000 years old.

I think that regardless of what Obama does or says, some rTHUGS are going to answer the polls the exact same way..

-----for one simple reason.

They love to sit on their fat freeper asses in their skidmarked Fruit-of-the-Looms.. and watch the mediaheads report the insane numbers in these ridiculous polls.
