Howard Dean to head South this week for votes
Dem Party chief to head South this week for votes

By NEDRA PICKLER
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean is embarking on a voter registration bus tour he hopes will help push Dixie to the Democrats.

Dean's trip begins Thursday in President Bush's hometown of Crawford, Texas, riding an eye-catching bus wrapped in the red, white and blue of presidential candidate Barack Obama's campaign logo.

Dean said in a telephone interview that he'll focus on winning over people who are struggling economically.

"We think that they have been disillusioned," said Dean, a former Vermont governor and presidential candidate in 2004. "Many of them voted for George Bush. We think they want something new and we're going to provide it for them."

1. Dean was in Maine last week to start the tour but the bus wasn't ready
He said they then decided to kick off the tour in Crawford. It's fitting.

Dean's message was great. He appealed to young people in a speech I thought was one of the best I have ever heard him give. This tour will be fantastic!

2. From Florida
Ignoring that the bus will not come here to the TampaBay area, how will the current 50 State program run by Governor Dean fold into the Obama 50 state campaign, or will it. Is there an office in TampaBay area ? I have not found evidence of a voter registration drive in Pinellas County.

3. What the hell?
I just did a quick google; looks like his sister will be there this week, but look at the comments here. What a challenge this will be for him. As for Dean and Obama, I'm sure they plan on a trip to Tampa, too.

You should plug in your zip on Obama's site to see what might be coming down the pike, under Obama events here:
