One possible upside to the offensive New Yorker cover

In the past 24 hours, in reaction to the cover, I have heard every MSM outlet proclaiming loud and clear that Obama is not a Muslim, not a terrorist sympathizer, etc. We all know those lies for what they are. But now maybe the misinformed masses will finally get the message as well. Everyone from CNN to the nightly network news broadcasts (Even Faux Snooze) to Entertainment Tonight has been talking about the fact that these so-called rumors are in fact lies.

I don't have a strong opinion of the cover because it depends upon how it all unfolds. I get the satire, the showing of how ridiculous the people who spew and believe those rumors are, but for some that are not-so-bright it will be used to validate what they want to believe (although most of them would never vote for a Black man anyway).

If the cover continues to get a lot of press, it could go a long way to quash the rw idiocy. Shame and ridicule can be powerful weapons if used properly.

3. One "possible" upside? It is THE ENTIRE REASON for the cover.

Good for the New Yorker, the veil is finally getting lifted, not without first causing major wailing and gnashing of teeth. Hopefully this means that we can stop having every third thread on this site being about it. I'm sure I hope for too much though.

The cover is the perfect opportunity for us to show the rightwing for the Keystone Kops they really are. Anything they say from now on about Obama being muslim or unpatriotic or any crap, and we can laugh at them.
