Obama promotes foreign policy cred in new ad; cites bipartisan work on nuclear security

Obama promotes foreign policy cred in new ad
From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney

Obama is highlighting his work with Sen. Lugar in a new ad.

(CNN) — On the same day Barack Obama (delivered) a major address on his Iraq policy, the Illinois senator has released a new campaign ad promoting his bipartisan efforts in foreign policy. In the new 30-second spot called "America's Leadership," Obama highlights his work with Republican Sen. Dick Lugar seeking to stop terrorist smuggling of loose nuclear weapons.

“The single most important national security threat that we face is nuclear weapons falling into the hands of terrorists," Obama says in the ad. "What I did was reach out to Senator Dick Lugar, a Republican, to help lock down loose nuclear weapons. We have to lead the entire world to reduce that threat."

The two senators developed a working relationship after Obama praised Lugar’s nuclear nonproliferation legacy on the campaign trail in 2004. The Indiana Republican later suggested the newly-elected Obama try for a seat on the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee, which he then chaired.

The ad is running in 18 states, including the traditional Republican strongholds of Alaska, Georgia, Indiana, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, and Virginia.

1. Lugar is not helping Obama
I saw this in the Star news this morning and called both Bayh and Lugar's offices. Both said the same thing. The Lugar spokesman said that Obama was only on Senator lugar's committee because of the need for equal numbers from both parties and although the Obama camp was suggesting otherwise Lugar did not single Obama out as his pet senator. Lugar makes a trip to Russia each year and his entire committee gets to go on the trip. He also said the Senator cannot stop Obama from using any pics or video's of himself with Obama. Obama is suggesting he is on top with national security with this ad but it would appear otherwise with what Lugar's office had to say. As for Bayh, he is the ranking Democratic Senator in Indiana and after the announcement that O would be the PRESUMPTUOUS NOMINEE, then Bayh fell in behind him. Bayh was a strong supporter of Senator hillary Clinton.
