McCain Aide: Obama Is Stubborn Like Bush
Is Barack Obama an extension of George W. Bush's foreign policy? Aides to John McCain made the argument today in a conference call meant to tout the Senator's own record.

Describing Obama's plan as dangerously rigid and ideological, McCain national security adviser Randy Scheunemann compared the Illinois Democrat to the current Oval Office occupant.

"I think the American people have had enough of stubbornness and inflexibility in national security policy," he said.

If the analogy was too obscure, Scheunemann followed it up with something a bit more overt. "In July 2004, said there is not too much a difference between my position and George W Bush's position on the war."

The charge, of course, is not related to policy (on which Obama and Bush drastically differ) but rather ideological rigidity. But the suggestion that Obama is too stubborn to change his position on Iraq is a bit ironic coming from a McCain campaign that, as recently as one week ago, jumped all over the Senator for saying he would "refine" his position. Aides to the Arizona Republican - who, it should be noted, has stuck rigidly to his policy on troop withdrawal - said that an op-ed published by Obama in the New York Times on Monday proved that (regardless of what he sees upon visiting Iraq) the presumptive Democratic nominee is wedded to specific war strategies. And it is in that regard, they argue, that he is Bush-like.

"We cannot afford to replace one administration that refused to acknowledge failure with candidate that refuses to acknowledge success in Iraq," said Scheunemann. "Sen. McCain made it clear from 2003 through 2007 that he thought we were following the wrong strategy in Iraq ... The administration finally changed course and followed Sen. McCain's plan and the entire world has seen the dramatic turnaround in Iraq, the dramatic decrease in violence on the ground there.

"Barack Obama developed an artificial timetable during the primaries," Scheunemann went on. "And he might actually listen to the commanders on the ground before he refines his policy ... Instead what he did was come out and adhere to his strict ideological timetable so that he could please the crowd at MoveOn.org ... So yes, he certainly is inflexible and stubborn."

6. uh...yeah, this one commenter from Wonkette pretty much sums it up for me!
"How do we fight the evil that is Bush? Vote for the man he endorsed! That’s wonderful — and so sensible. I’m going to carry my car home now, where my cats will make me a sandwich, a beer will drink me, and my feet will put me up on an ottoman until this violent thumping in my head goes away…"

If a McAnus aide said it, it must be true. Thank goodness we found out now, before it is too late.

13. Okay.
Mighty warm outside. My wife is out supervising a pool full of very loud and active children. I am going to wander off in the opposite direction -- through the woods to my quiet and isolated pond.

How are things with you?

Here's a picture of the fire pit my boys made for me near the pond. I'm too old to be lifting stones that size anymore.

15. It is funny how
time flies. In the picture below, you'll note my younger son near a rather large rock that I set up years ago. That little boy is a big, extremely strong young man now, and he is going to move and re-set the stone near the pond. (It has to be the Irish blood.)

In a world moving at the speed we see today, it is relaxing for me to sit out there. My son put his one-room cabin near the pond. I sit and read, write, watch the wildlife, and consume the food that grows in the area. Every so often, I leave the civilized world of nature, and venture into one of the local communities .... or sit in front of the computer. But the pond is getting a lot more of my attention lately.

The thought of moving rocks that weigh a few hundred pounds seems rather distant these days. But I will take a couple photos of some of the retaining walls and walk-ways the boys build for me. They also make paths all around the property, through the fields and woods, for me to hobble about on.

19. Years ago.
Took me two days, total. I moved it about 30 yards, then set it upright. I grew up on a small farm, where we cut wood with my father's two-man saw, and used many other less-than-modern technologies. While it wasn't always intellectually stimulating, it gave me certain advantages when I entered the old boxing ring. (grin)

My childhood "best friend" (being we were the only kids our age in the very rural neighborhood) spend all of our "off time" at his or my pond. These days, he stops from time to time, and we are now two old men sitting near a pond.

16. This. Is. The. Best. They. Can. Do.
It's not even funny, anymore, that the party that has dominated our government for decades can't do any better than this.

This is just irrational. George is a bigot. He's illiterate. He's a 10-o'clock bedtime bungler. He tries to leave rooms through the closet door. He chokes on pretzles.

But, he's just like this hot young stallion who's caught the entire country's imagination overnight. Yup. Just like.

It's really true: If the GOP and the RNC were dog food, they'd have been recalled.
