What's the "problem" with the DNC's fund raising? Should we worry?

Obama is doing great by himself but the GOP fat cats have filled the RNC coffers which will blunt his efforts unless the DNC can do likewise.

Can it?

Anyone know why the DNC is relatively broke? Is this what always happens?

1. Yeah this always happens.

The DNC us usually behind the RNC in fundraising.

We just need to start donating to the DNC more. I've begun splitting my monthly donations between the Obama campaign and the DNC.

people believe in the candidate. While corporate interests believe heavily in the RNC and can donate staggering amounts to it far above the 2300 cap for the candidates.

4. A big part of the lack of cash is the 50 state plan.

The DNC has been helping to build state parties for the past year and a half or so. They've even been paying for a couple of full time staffers here in Georgia of all places. In my opinion, this should pay off in a much more lasting way that just buying TV ads. Turns out it's a good time to do it too, since Team Obama is a money raising machine on it's own.

It should also be said that the Obama campaign has been openly encouraging people to avoid other groups and donate directly to the campaign.

More importantly, the RNC has $69 m cash on hand, while the DNC only has $20 m. link

I don't think it's a big cause for worry, but these numbers should push people to step it up a bit.

9. The primary

drained a lot of money that could have gone to the DNC. I'm not sure it'll be too big of a problem though. The DNC raised 5 times as much money in June as in May. Plus, the DNC is focused almost exclusively on the Presidential race and our congressional committees are fine. On the other hand, the Republican congressional committees are broke so the RNC will have to divert some of their money if they want to avoid massive losses this year.

10. Speaking For Myself, Did Not Want To Give Until Primaries Were Over

I admit it. I was wait and see, and did not give to either Obama or Clinton during the primaries. However, now that the primaries are over, I have already written a check to the DNC, and will give to Obama. For me, the eye on the prize has always been the Presidency. I don't know whether any other DUers share my views.

Considering how tight the economy is and how ethical the fundraising is, I'm perfectly fine with the DNC not raising as much as the GOP. The June numbers are very impressive.

FL Dem leaders and Clinton large money donors...tried to crash DNC fundraising. They insisted that Howard Dean count the delegates, and he instead went by the rules.

I think time will tell they did it very well. While Dean spent more monthly than the DSCC and DCCC rebuilding a broken party...a great portion of the last few years he was even with and many times surpassing the two groups in donations.

When MI and FL fiascos happened, things changed. Florida played an active role in hurting fundraising for the DNC, and here are some posts on how Clinton's big donors played an even larger role.
