Oh no! Gramm quit.
I will miss the fool.

NEW YORK - Former Texas Sen. Phil Gramm resigned Friday from his role as GOP presidential candidate John McCain's campaign co-chairman, hoping to quiet the uproar that followed his comments that the United States had become a "nation of whiners" whose constant complaints about the U.S. economy show they are in a "mental recession."

Gramm, a past presidential candidate, made the remarks more than a week ago. McCain immediately distanced himself from the comments, but they brought a steady stream of criticism just as McCain is trying to show he can help steer the country past its current financial troubles.

Gramm said in a statement late Friday that he is stepping down to "end this distraction."

"It is clear to me that Democrats want to attack me rather than debate Senator McCain on important economic issues facing the country," Gramm said. "That kind of distraction hurts not only Senator McCain's ability to present concrete programs to deal with the country's problems, it hurts the country. To end this distraction and get on with the real debate, I hereby step down as co-chair of the McCain campaign and join the growing number of rank-and-file McCain supporters."...

3. "rank-and-file " my ass.
I'm sure McCain couldn't pick him out of a crowd anymore :eyes:. . .

Unless the old bird kicks it, I'm pretty damn sure he'll be writing economic policy.

Edited on Fri Jul-18-08 09:17 PM by mloutre

I can't *believe* he actually said on the Senate floor that he won't let the Saudis and Iranians et al "..."jerk us around by the gas nozzle like they have been..."

Jeez. What a maroon.

Or a moran. Whatever.

But I will defuse the situation by offering this alternative image instead...

(Edited to add: no kittehs were harmed in the taking of this image, I promise. But a paw's reach must exceed its grasp, else what's a heaven for?)

If I insert gratuitous kyoot kitteh pix instead, does that make it better?

6. Step down as co-chair ???
You mean, he was still officially the co-chair of the McCain campaign? I thought McCain had announced last week that he was no longer any part of the campaign with any official capacity? Did McCain and his campaign lie about Phil Gramm and his connection to the campaign? I think so....

20. They're Preparing For A UBS Scandal
That's the bank Whiner Gramm is a VP/CEO with. They're up to their necks in the sub prime fiasco and now face criminal charges regarding helping shelter millions away from the IRS. Gramm's hands are probably all over this and he may even find himself in some legal hot water...Gramps is cutting losses...again.

My bets are Gramm isn't being thrown under the bus, he's being hidden in the cargo hold under it. Gramps doesn't give up on friends with money too easily.

24. Don't worry. McCain also said it was a "mental" thing.
Edited on Fri Jul-18-08 11:21 PM by SemiCharmedQuark
Actually he said "psychological"

I’m very concerned about it, Neil. And obviously the way it’s been going up is just terrible. But I think psychologically — and a lot of our problems today, as you know, are psychological — the confidence, trust, the uncertainty about our economic future, ability to keep our own home. This might give them a little psychological boost. Let’s have some straight talk, it’s not a huge amount of money.

I don't think that guy can quit.
