NY Daily News: Clinton aides have bought numerous sites with "2012" in them to prevent mischief
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2008/07/18/2008-07-18_gop_dollar_signs_on_clintons_back-2.html

Clinton seems more concerned with her own political future. Her operatives have bought up numerous Web site names with the year 2012 in them, just to make sure no one else gets them. Her camp's purchase of one, HRC2012.com, was reported yesterday by the Atlantic Monthly.

"People can get these and make mischief," said Clinton strategist and advance man Greg Hale. "It's better to keep them in your own hands."

This info was at the end of a NY Daily News article about the GOP (the National Republican Senatorial Committee) trying to raise money by telling conservatives that HRC might be appointed to the Supreme Court if Obama is elected.

I'm posting this as a new topic, rather than a reply to the older topic about one of those websites (HRC2012.com)

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x6514232

because if I just post this as a reply, it's likely to be missed while people post new replies voicing outrage that this is proof Clinton is already planning to run for president in 2012.

Some people replying in that older topic already said (and I agreed) that this was being done to keep other people from creating these sites and causing mischief for Clinton with them, and this Daily News article confirms that.

By the way, re what the same article says about the GOP trying to raise money by mentioning Clinton -- this is very reminiscent of Teddy Kennedy's name being used the same way in fundraising letters. Their usual "Oh, look, scary liberal Democrats!!!" tactic.

I've been googling to try to find a copy of that letter to see who else might have been mentioned, but so far haven't found it.

9. C'mon, it does no good to go after Clinton.
The drooling PUMA morons are fair game, but those pathetic little ankle biters really aren't worth worrying about.

2. She'll be up for re-election in the Senate in 2012
it's not unreasonable to lock up the names now.

3. It's also not unreasonable for her to deny the PUMAs their pouncing ground.
Whatever the reason, I'm glad she had her aides do this.

If Hillary's campaign owns the domain www.hrc2012.com then why is it "parked" at godaddy.com, which is notorious for those cheesy ass proxy coward sites?

Doesn't seem like a good way to distance herself from the idiots who were using her name to further their own fucked up agendas, many of whom used Go Daddy coward proxies to hide the names behind their own websites.

12. It's the "most popular" registrar site for sleazeballs like PUMA and others trying to hide things.
You would think that Hillary's staff would be trying to avoid ANY appearance of an association with those kind of scumbags whatsoever. Register your domain with a more reputable company that doesn't openly cater to sleazeballs. It's just a dumb political move.

You'd think one of these days they'd notice that Sen. Clinton is opposed to them.
