about the economy, is from Michigan, already used to the national stage, can raise shitloads of money (Mormons), and is by now familiar and vetted. Nobody likes the guy, but that's OK, because McCain gets enough worship on his own.

But McCain won't do it. He doesn't like him, and I doubt he'd want someone who's so much more articulate than him as his VP. That also rules out Huckabee, of course.

What's to be afraid of in Romney? He's smart, articulate and rich enough to give his failed primary campaign 45 million. He was the best looking of the Republican field (not saying much, of course), and he has presidential hair, which is everything. He's also got that massive ego and arrogance that really seems to motivate the Republican base. I thought he was a lot better nominee (i.e.: electable) for the Republicans than John "You kids get the hell off my lawn" McCain, who is old and does not have hair that threatens me.

Southern Baptist Republicans are likely to consider the fact that McCain is 72 and in poor health - and given that, they don't want somebody who they think is a cultist in the White House.

I think if McCain chooses Romney we'll see more Barr votes and swing states in the South than we are seeing now.

I just figured that after they voted for a drunken, coke-snorting AWOL hypocrite twice, a Mormon wouldn't look so bad.

Still, if you're the sort who feels that way, then casting a vote for Barr and thereby putting Obama in the White House is pretty unthinkable. They pretty much vote for whoever their preachers tell them to vote for anyway.

3. McSame lacks charisma, youth, and executive experience so in that sense Mittens is a good choice.

He won't bring in the conservative evangelical vote, though, and I am not sure how he plays in southern states. Huckabee could do well in those two areas, and he has charisma and executive experience as well. I could see him as a VP choice.

a) it's not like he has a lot of better choices
b) that's who the bush people want (Jeb endorsed Romney in the primaries and GHWB sort of did). the public hates bush, but the family has a lot of GOP power.

Many women voters, suburban "soccer moms," could be swayed. Perhaps disaffected Clinton voters angry that a woman didn't make it may favor that ticket. Hutchinson is from Texas, a well known conservative. A stepford wife.

knew he was in the race. He had that cat that swallowed the canary look. He brushed off any talk of VP stuff. But he was up to something. And that from someone who had just dropped out of the race points in the direction of him at least being vetted. Just a guess on my part. I think everyone acknowledges he is on the short list.

After the 9/11 headlines the entire team lies us into an unprovoked attack on a sovereign nation. They are still lying about it at this hour.

These people evidently will do anything at all. Anything. Anything that maintains their influence and their power and which bolsters their big-wallet donors and corporate pals.

Against that backdrop, Willard doesn't seem all that outrageous.

For progressives, he's a monstrous creepazoid, yes, but to Republicans, he's almost an improvement.
