1. I'm wondering how many in the crowd were African immigrants.
One of my hopes for an Obama administration is that the Mother Continent be brought out of war and poverty.

hopeful in a grounded sense and less rapture-ready.

15. I see what you mean but, just think, this is in Germany!
That an American politician can be so admired at this time is impressive. The Germans can't vote for Obama but you can see that they want an America President different from what they have seen recently.

33. Nope, although that's freaky too. This was at the convention or a speech or something. She was in
the crowd, maybe real close to the stage and had the same body position as the people in the Obama photo.

10. Damnit, I just stopped crying
The look of hope on those women's face - priceless. Clearly people around the globe want this culture of war to end and see Obama as someone who could make that happen.

19. Every time I see the pictures of the crowds in Europe for Obama I break out into tears also.
The world waits for a change in the United States. For the land of the free to truly be free again. The world waits for the United States to rejoin the world community, and turn away from being the world's number one terrorist and obstacle to peace. I'm waiting for that also.

As I posted elsewhere about this picture, it's almost too much. Too much unbridled hope, too many expectations... maybe I am just getting old...

12. A moment of redemption for America
We are very fortunate that Europeans are able to feel renewed hope for the world and America's role in it, despite the horrors of the Bush/Cheney era. This picture captures that hope better than any thousand words could.

Obama has a similar effect on crowds here at home too. Just wait till he gives his acceptance speech at the Democratic convention next month! :bounce:

27. That picture is very inspiring to me...
I believe that enough of the human race is really in a position to make a better world for all of humanity, both environmentally and socially, if we can elect Barack Obama. I know that may sound arrogant, and I know many places in the world are already ahead of us in that way, but it will certainly help to make for faster and more dramatic changes, if America really gets behind such a movement, and for the first time in my life, or at least, since I was a child, I truly feel a general sense of desire to honestly mobilize our common society to achieve such goals as renewable energy, and a desire to improve co-operation between all nations. Now, I may sound pollyannish, or that I am putting too much, in the power of a U.S. president. But the fact is, our current president has wrought such damage in the world, that it has, in fact created a unique opportunity to make momentous and positive global changes. Obama showed it is possible today, with his speech in Berlin. He helped me see a world ready for an America to engage the world in a more humble and productive manner. This election can be a real signal to the world of an America that not only talks the talk, but can really, walk the walk, with an Obama victory. In spite of the powerful interests that currently control our country, and will do much to prevent his presidency, I think we can actually do it this time, really improve the world's human condition. That simple picture says all of that to me and I am happy for that.

The contrast of their age and race is not enough to overshadow the same look of hope in their faces. Absolutely amazing.

30. On NPR this morning an editor from Germany and one from France
were talking about the public reaction to Obama in both countries. One thing they mentioned was the sense of joy, relief and frank amazement that so many people in both those countries feel at the fact that Barack Obama has a shot at being President of the United State.

One, they look at George Bush and what we've had for the last eight years and they can't believe that the same country that did that could even possibly elect Obama.

Two, they know that people in neither France nor Germany are nowhere close to being able to elect someone like Barack (in so many ways) to lead their nations. They remember what it used to be like when the U.S. was a country to look at for leadership and example, and they see the possibility that they might be able to do so again.
