People make up their own reality.
They are raised as republicans, so they agree with what republicans say, or they redefine reality to believe the republicans agree with and/or care about them.
Same thing happens with religion, even with allegiance to sports teams.
It is tribalism, and it is in our genes. It is why there are religions, why there are cults, why there are cliques in high schools.
With other animals, it is not a problem. Generally speaking, they favor their "tribe" - school, flock, herd, whatever and do just fine with it. Humans, however, with their "higher intelligence" invented this concept called "reality." Many of us have been taken in by it - it is kind of a cult itself. Those who believe in it flagrantly suspend belief in alternatives put forth by other tribes, such as creationism, intelligent design, flat earth, wmd's, etc. They are arrogant about it. They want only "reality" to be taught in schools, to be used in establishing policy, in starting wars. Some of the non-subscribers, like this gentleman, prefer to just define their own reality so they can pretend to be part of the cult of critical thinkers while happily going about their deluded way.
