flip florida? yes we can!
florida today newspaper report on sunday said: " In a tiny storefront office on King Street in Cocoa, supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama brought their excitement for change to the North Brevard County for Obama organizational meeting on Saturday.
They sat in folding chairs in small groups, signed phone and e-mail lists, and came up with plans to garner support for Obama, and by doing so, spread the word about the Democratic party.
"This is classic grassroots," said Nina Zimm of Cocoa. "Getting people together, all ages, campaigning for a candidate to believe in. It's rare in Brevard County."
About 30 people crammed into the Democratic Party headquarters, divided into groups according to geographic area. Their mission: Be the Neighborhood Team for Change. Everyone received information on how to be a phone bank captain, a canvass captain, where to go to get the most visibility, how to get information out.
"The main thing consensus-wise, is people really want a change," said Frances Comeau of Cocoa, who until recently considered herself a Republican. But now, she said, "I will not go near a Republican."
"We believe in change," said Ann Curington of Merritt Island. "We really think we need a change."
"From all parts of the county, you've got people here," said Pat Manning of Titusville, a member of the Brevard County Democratic Executive Committee. "That's what it's going to take. I won't say 'I think.' I know we're going to win. It's our time." "
