we don't need an ailing president who will die soon
The average male lives to be 75 years old. Not sure if they included many former POWs in the study...

The last thing we need is a president who will hold the country hostage as his health and life declines before our very eyes. Not to mention the emotional and financial costs of having a sitting president die while in office.

2. Devil's advocate:
That 75 average age applies to NEWBORNS, and takes into account infant mortality, childhood diseases, teenage accidents, and military service casualties.

By the time someone gets to McCain's age he has already dodged a lot of bullets and people of his age have an average life expectancy of 85 years or so, not 75.

3. Devil's advocate 2
Yes, but McCain is hardly a picture of health. He can barely walk, and he's constantly making mental mistakes. What's he going to be like in four years?

BTW, his father died when he was 70.

6. Not to be defending McCain, but he comes off as a pure genius compared to the shrub.
And of course so would you and I.

5. And as others behind the scene who have not been elected run the
show. They did this with raygun and are most likely doing it with *ss. Either the pResident is supposed to be fit to reign or the VP is supposed to take over. When raygun had Alzheimer's no one even suggested that he was unfit to rule. So the will keep McGaffe alive and cart him out on good days so they can do what they want behind our backs.

9. My father was a POW for 3 yrs. in Japan during WWII.
Also he marched in the Bataan death march in the Philipines. I'm happy to say that he is 86 and doing well..........

I find your post offensive!

10. Give your dad a hug and our thanks!
And I'm very happy to hear he's doing well (I wish I still had my dad.)

But the OP wasn't dissing POWs or those who have served in the military - the OP is just stating yet another potential reason why we don't want McCain. Please don't take it personally.

11. The OP said
"we don't need an ailing president that will DIE SOON," and then gave the statistic for POW's. None of us know when we will die, and that includes young people as well.

Personally, I think attacking McCain based on his age or military service is disgusting. I didn't like it when the RW did it to Kerry, and I don't like it on the dem side either. Certainly, health and fitness are applicable.

All of us have personal stories here, and some may take offense and other's may not. I spoke of my father only to put it in context. It's unfortunate that you failed to understand my post and why I was offended.

16. What's really unfortunate is that I felt enough for you to try to make you
feel better. I won't make that mistake again.

17. Don't get your
panties in a wad. Please understand, we are talking about feelings here. That is something that is not negotiable. It's like you telling me that I should not be offended. It's like saying I have no valid reason to be offended. I just don't know how to explain it to you, but I mean nothing personal against you. I don't know you.

This is a perfect illustration, you are now offended, even though I meant no offense. I think we just have a communication problem.........best wishes to you...........

15. Oh bullshit.
It's saying that people beyond a certain age are worthless because they might die. It's OFFENSIVE.

12. Sorry, but the age thing is bullshit
If he undergoing treatment for something like prostate cancer, that would be one thing. But I've always found the age attack to be a huge turnoff. He's supposedly in okay health.

Attack him for his dangerous bullshit ideas, not his age. At least that's what I say. :D

14. That's just as dumb as saying we don't need a president whose middle name is Hussein.
Really. It is.

48 year old men die from heart attacks all the time - even the skinny ones. Obama has a family history of alcoholism and cancer while McCain has a living parent in her 90's and still going strong.

Attack McCain on his policies, his opposition to choice, and his votes. Otherwise we lose the moral high ground. Age discrimination is NO BETTER than racism. Period.

18. his age will have it's own effect on his votes, we don't need to discuss it
as it can be a turnoff for many. ageism isn't pretty. at all. the thing that backs up what you're ultimately trying to say, is that WITH age, comes higher alzheimer rates, etc... he seems pretty clueless at times.
