Poll question: Why did Pastor Warren's audience cheer when Obama mentioned Clarence Thomas in the SCOTUS question?
Edited on Sun Aug-17-08 07:11 PM by zulchzulu
At Pastor Warren's debate on CNN, why did the audience cheer when Barack Obama mentioned that he would have never voted for Clarence Thomas for the Supreme Court. Thomas supports 100% of the Christian Right's positions. Thomas was put into "commission" by George H.W. Bush (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarence_Thomas).

So since they wouldn't disagree with Clarence Thomas on his votes which are identical to Antonin Scalia, who is doing the Religious Right's agenda from the bench, what could they possibly be cheering about when Obama mentioned Thomas?

5. Because making black folks say things against black folks is job #1 for white folks....
That's why Obama has to answer for anything said by any black person anywhere.

18. But, if there is one "brotha" I don't mind seeing Obama denounce and reject,
it is Clarence Thomas. In fact, I was unaware of the audience's reaction because I was too busy cheering myself. He did dig hard at Thomas - I was not upset, but kind of surprised.

7. That's it ... you owe me!!! I just blew wine all over my BEST monitor. I wondered about that too
I also wondered if Obama wondered about that before he answered the question. I wondered if he thought to show the hypocrisy of the WHITE AMERICAN EVANGELICAL CHRISTIAN.

Rick Warren ... aka revenge of Falwell.

11. How 'bout "he treats women like Kleenex"?
Why this freaking push poll? Why not open it up to real exploration of the issue?

Thomas harassed women in the grossest way. He didn't deserve a judgeship at all, let alone the Supreme Court.

Obviously, there's no reason to take part in this stupid poll.

13. I voted 'other.'
Perhaps there should have been a choice, "Clarence Thomas is a Republican thug."
I may have voted for it.
Either that or an alien trying to kill off the human race.

15. They regard that position as being anti-Racial quotas...? Obama said CT =/= QUALIFIED to be SCOTUS.
How many Black Americans were in the audience? Perhaps they don't identify with CT. I know some of them definitely do NOT like CR.

19. Other: There may have been some progressive-minded church-goers in the crowd.
I think some of them also cheered when Obama said he opposed a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. Not all religious people are right wing, not even in Orange County (which is getting bluer all the time..closing in on a half million registered Democrats!)
