Anyone else remember Yvonne Brathwaite Burke?

the first elected black congressperson from California, I believe, and the first Congresswoman to give birth while in office.

She was showcased at the Democratic Convention a long time ago and it was so unusual to see an African-American front and center in a political forum.

2. Yes, for sure. Governor Brown appointed

her as Supervisor for my district of Los Angeles County ( an upper middle class white bread area along the coast) for awhile. The repukes were enraged and managed to get her out in the next election. Burke later came back and got seat on the board in another district.
