Prediction: Starting tomorrow conservatives will follow Pat Buchanan or move to Barr
Real conservatives have been suffering these last 8 years. They are more committed to their principles than to a party and they have been carrying water for Bush and Cheney although they haven't liked a big piece of what has happened, whether they are old styled conventional conservatives, devout evangelical Christians (not the TV characature), or old style isolationists like Buchanan.

Now they have McCain who they really really hate.

Starting tomorrow I expect to see a number of conservatives (especially sincere moderate evangelicals) move to Obama or atleast acknowledge that McCain can't keep up with him.

Many others who are not particularly religious but dislike McCain I expect to see many start to get behind Barr. Abandoning McCain will give them more heft in the future naming the future successor to McCain when they try and figure out the new leader of the Republican Party.

2. Well Said!

I completely agree. If Pat Buchanan says that your opponent's speech was beautiful, and was visibly moved by it, you're done. Done. Done.

3. The country club republicans are uncomfortable with wars without end and religious fanaticism.
I agree with you, grantcart.

4. Pat Buchanan got a tingle up his leg from Obama tonight.
I wonder if he told his wife, "I think I might vote for the colored boy."

5. It COULD end up being Obama vs. Barr
Barr could end up with more of a chance to win than McCain.

If McCain falls beind enough in the polls and Barr moves ahead enough, we could be looking at three way debates or potentially even a series of debates with no Republican candidate.

17. I have noticed
a resurgence of Ron Paul signs around in the last week. After the primaries they pretty well vanished, but in the last week, they were replanted in all their old haunts (generally on public right of way's, lasting only until the city/DOT workers can get around to uprooting them.)

8. I met a conservative newspaper's photographer at an Obama rally tonight.
He said, "I've never voted for a Democrat before in my life, but that's about to change."

He said he's always been a social liberal but a fiscal conservative, and the Republicans have proven to be fiscally irresponsible. He was impressed by how Obama motivates, inspires and offers people hope, and said even though he disagrees with some of Obama's policies, he believes he is what this country needs most right now.

That was always the case (or should be). People just have to figure it out.
