Clark passes Kerry
Rumor floating around on the web right now. Clark has passed Kerry in Dean's internal polling. WMUR TV in New Hampshire ran something about this. Anyone else got the dope?

1. No dope, but I hope it's true.
It's just a matter of time 'til it's true 'cause Clark's
such a great candidate. But I hope it's true now.

I think it's hard for people to see him and not be impressed.

6. Isn't it the Dean campaign who leaked this info?
If so, I'd take a wait and see approach. They play a lot of dirty political games.

I am taking a wait and see approach, but do you have any proof that it came from the Dean campaign?

44. On Hardball one of the guests stated that
this had been leaked by the Dean campaign in order to decrease expectations for Dean and to lessen the impact of Clark doing well (but then again how many times has Dean played that game - too many to count).

9. Dean camp about to get dirtier...
Edited on Tue Jan-06-04 05:14 AM by SahaleArm
With former U.S. Sen. Bill Bradley's endorsement of presidential candidate Howard Dean today, the former Vermont governor's campaign is likely to emphasize that the front-runner is "a real Democrat" and more decisive than former Gen. Wesley Clark.

Dean is a Dem. Clark is an independent. Clark has voted for too many out of party to claim the "Dem loyalist" label.

An Independent label has just as much good in it with voters anyway.

23. you need a new line
this one is old and, honestly, is bs. Clark lobs out the most aggressively progressive tax plan of the candidates and you still want to call him a republican.

37. That's funny

Dean may have trouble with this one since he refers to so many of the long time Democratic members as "cockroaches." One would think some new blood and independent minded thinking would be a good thing in Dean's mind.

So Dems that have been around and don't support Dean are cockroaches and Dems that are new to the party and don't support him aren't Dem loyalist enough. Since about 75% of the Dems out there don't support Dean, he's got a huge group to trash and alienate before the GE.

after months of "railing" about the Dem Party and calling them cockroaches.

I've never seen any political candidate more hypocritical than this guy (well except maybe Bush).

Kerry is my number two. Stay strong.

I do not trust this number two leak which is coming from Dean's campaign according the HardBall round table. They are raising expectations for Clark so that the spin can be "oh well, not as good as expected," no matter what the NH vote. Expect more of this.

Our campaigns are getting along well also. Nice for a change.

At the Florida convention some Kerry people actually helped me with a Clark banner. It was a beautiful thing....

But I would proudly support Kerry.

They are both honorable men who have given much to their country.

Unlike other candidates, I would sleep well, knowing either Kerry or Clark is at the helm.

Now is not the time to choose a person who's biggest concerns have been dairy cows.

28. As good as Kerry is
he has relentlessly and with dedication selected himself out of the real enthusiasm and presentation needed at this level. Clark salvos and great political style would propel him easily to the top if ever the focus shifted in some new terror attack or armed conflict fiasco.

Reluctantly, before a vote has been cast, it appears to me(only my opinion) that Kerry at this stage can only be a spoiler who it remains to be seen seen if he can carve out a sphere of influence out of his regional and familiar loyalties. As with Gephardt(the better campaigner) the hard-nosed portion of the electorate knows this is a choice for the national stage. Where the issues fall or loyalties lie will dwindle quicker and quicker in the face of choosing a presidential candidate. The ones best positioned are Dean(of course) and Clark and Edwards depending on how that contest for a national champion shapes. It may be interesting. Judging from past experience it will be. Dean has to personally earn it over strong choices so there will be little question who the people in general really want.
