John Edwards affair inadvertantly helps Democrats?
Would be funny if true. If the Enquirer is really coming out with a Palin affair story, the Edwards scandel could give it more creditibility.

1. Or
The puke operatives gave The Enquirer the Edwards story and it turned out to be true.

Now the same source gives them this story knowing it was false.

The reporters at the Enquirer run with it because the Edwards' story was correct - thinking they have a credible source.

Then they get punked on the new story.

Sounds very Rove to me.

Then again, maybe the Enquirer got it right - twice.

Who'da thunk it?

3. I highly doubt that.
First of all, why would the GOP want to punk the Enquirer? You don't gain much sympathy or credibility doing that. The Enquirer isn't credible enough to deserve a punking.

So then the only thing you could be hoping for is that the MSM picks it up and runs with it and then they can punk the MSM.

The problem with that is that an affair isn't something like Bush's Military record, or a Birth Cretificate or anything provable. They can refute it. They can even make it very believable that she didn't have an affair, but when it comes down to it, its just something that can not ever be proven. So, its not something that they want getting a lot of publicity. There will always be somebody that will believe it.

4. They're cheap, lowest-common-denominator, but usually right these days.
The Enquirer has been sued enough times to have learned their lesson about US libel laws and the importance of fact-checking. They're total bottom-feeders, but for the last 10 years or so, when they've published a story that's gotten them in hot water, they've usually been proven right.
