On this MSNBC show about GW Bush, In the Father's Footsteps, they showed an interview with GW from 1997 and he was talking about why his father lost.

His number one reason? They failed to capitalize on the popularity of the gulf war!

Wasn't it Palast (American Dynasty) who said the Bushes were after power at all cost, in a singular-minded kind of way? Is it possible that this war was all about winning re-election? That he just went along with Cheney and the neocon agenda because he saw war as a political opportunity?

And it was starting to make me sick. I had to turn it off and decide to hang here for awhile. I think he lost because he looked at his watched, plus he seemed a bit disengaged. The main reason was the faltering economy.

I agree with your last statement. And really Shrub isn't in charge of anything, the Neocons are....

2. the "political opportunity" was part of the mix, I'm sure
--he figured, yes, that the American people would blindly support any kind of war, and enshrine him for starting one.

but go ahead, dumbass, try to capitalize on the "popularity" of your war. see how far it gets you, you lying sack of monkey sh*t.

3. I thought it was because of "READ MY LIPS"
It's the 5 second sound bytes than win elections. Not the capitalization of anything.

4. Did you see where Bush I was talking about Bush II

getting into politics?

Where he said "I didn't know if George would want to get into this
RACKET"

They think of politics as a racket... i.e. a criminal enterprise.
It's a Freudian slip, but telling.

6. Yes.
The whole thing was very creepy. They showed GW standing in a crowd behind his father while he was giving a speech, and his lips were moving as he was staring so intensely at his father, almost like he was willing him to say certain words and getting angry that it wasn't happening.

It's so clear that Dubya wanted to avoid all of the mistakes he perceived his father as having made. And his comments on his dad needing to look like a warrior were telling. If Kerry could get Bush against the ropes, he could get him to lose that fake demeanor for just long enough. Then we'd see how many people would still want to "have a beer" with him.
