2. Concern should be directed at GOTV efforts
and derailing any and all GOP vote stealing plans.
Thanks for the sober post.

This will definitely be historic.

3. You said "thoughts."
Sorry, no one is interested in thoughts, only hysterical rants about how badly Kerry is blowing it. Come back when you have one of those, and you, too, will start a 100+ post thread.

4. I agree with you Pete...
and sometimes I disagree with them on an issue....But Kerry has already taken their best punch, in my opinion, with the SBVT ads. And he was hit hard but did not go down. I have liked John Kerry since 1971...and I had been back from Viet Nam 2 years at that time and was quite political myself...

12. Do you really believe the Swiftscum was their "best" punch?
I don't. There is more slime to come. Bank on it. They haven't got to "treason" yet. This is going to get very ugly, and how Kerry responds (or doesn't) will tell the tale.

5. My .02 on what should be THEE talking point out of every Dem spokesman.

John Kerry was fighting to shut down terrorist banks like BCCI while most of those in the Republican administrations were working to thwart his investigations into them to cover for their own covert dealings and those of their cronies.

John Kerry was working to shut down terrorist funders like Salem Bin Laden while George Bush was making big money off him.

Why were so many in the GOP working AGAINST Kerry's efforts to investigate and expose the funding of terrorists and their international network of money launderers?

Who did more to shut down terrorism before 9-11 and who did more to try to stop the investigations into terrorism and its funding?

6. And further, as president Kerry can continue his efforts to thwart terror
right at its roots without any Republicans running interference for the terrorists and their cronies in high positions.

7. Pete, tell me why you believe so firmly that Kerry can "close the deal?"
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 07:06 PM by KoKo01
I've read all the reports about Kerry, including Charley Reese's excellent loooooong read about how one should NEVER UNDERESTIMATE Kerry.

But, I want to hear it from you! From your gut...what is it you know about Kerry that those of us don't know who see John Podesta and others sent out by Kerry Campaign who are slaughtered by the Repug Operatives on every Cable Show and Sunday Pundit show. By all accounts Podesta is an admirable man and so are the others admirable people..not wedded necessarily to the DLC (which, as you know, some of us here on DU blame for Clinton not being defended for two terms against the Repugs, i.e.Conason "Hunting of the President, and the Gore Fiasco in Florida in 2000. And then add in the "2002 Mid-Term Elections" where we watched a weak Dashle who gave away "the store" when Jeffords switched and then allowed Cleland and McKinney and others to "go down".. as he wrung his hands...and said..we have a strategy...we won't attack because if we do we will beome them..." blah, blah, blah.

Give ME an answer that's more than "trust me and Kerry...he will come through for you."

WHY SHOULD I TRUST YOU? OR KERRY... What is the STRATEGY?? If you can't speak the "secret strategy" just PM me...I've been on DU a long time. I don't spill "secrets." Just tell me?

9. Why has he not already countered their many lies?
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 07:45 PM by Armstead
Sorry, but sometimes we have to vent from sheer frustration. I'm no political stratregist, but that's one reason the obvious screw ups are so frustrating. There's so been so many missed opportunities, and GOP insults and lies that have been unanswered.

The GOP has spent weeks (months) directly attacking Kerry on many levels. "He avoids his Senate record." "He flip flops." "He waffles." "He's always voted against the military." "He voted to gut the CIA before 9-11." "He's the liberal Senator."

But Kerry and his surrogates have just let these memes go on unchallenged for so long it has seeped into the public unconsious. How many times have Kerry or his surrogates just let these fly by without a direct answer? I hear the GOP lies over and over, but never hear them challenged.

The problem is the GOP takes Kerry's strengths first and twists them. And so when the GOP brings these up, Kerry is automatically on the defensive.

The GOP is now about to rip apart Kerry's Senate record, which Kerry has ignored in his speeches. So, instead of saying what a great Senator he has been, he will now be in the position of having to answer their attacks. Instead of proudly citing his record, Kerry will now be forced into the position of saying "I wasn't that bad as a Senstor."

Why hasn't a main message been how tough he was on both terrorism and corruption while a Senator?....I know he might say it in a town hall meeting somewhere, but he and the rest of his campaign and the Denmocratic leadership need to be touting things like that. They should have been doing it long before now.

14. If Kerry is trying to take the high road, we all know where that leads
And it isn't the White House. Ask Al Gore.
