Working the campaign trail casually dressed in a red mock turtleneck and brown corduroys, Mr. Clark told the audience in Portsmouth's South Church that "I don't think it is in the American public interest to further consolidate the media." Answering this reporter's question, the candidate said media consolidation "is damaging to putting out diverse opinions and fostering public dialogue. ... We need to distribute the ownership in media. We need to have the fairness in broadcasting rules put back in place."

4. Who decides what is fair....

can't a bunch of shrub-cronies decide that the anti-war message is not fair and ban it, or insist that there is 100 hours of pro-war speech to counterbalance it. I find it puzzling that people are so willing to give the government so much control over how much and what type of speech is on the air.

How bout free speech? On the air? You refer to the "public" airways? Not Rupert Murdoch's. They remain the public airways when the government intervenes. Streams remain relatively safe from pollution when the government intervenes. Public schools remain a place where all kids can get an education, when the government intervenes. I find it puzzling that people are so willing to relinquish what is theirs to corporate entities who want to push a political agenda by dominating all media outlets. There goes that comparison again.

10. What does the First Amendment mean?

Maybe I am missing something, but to me this cuts through the heart of the First Amendment. The government has a legitmate role in breaking up a corporate media monopoly, but we might as well repeal the First Amendment if we are gonna let the government decide what fair and balanced speech is. I mean really, what if some right-wing propaganda machine takes over the government.....Oh well, I guess I am in the minority on this.

And this is good! While I believe that Clark will be successful in this race, I want Kucinich to go on. If Kucinich is unsuccessful in this race, I would like to see him in the Senate, more power and a better place to advocate his ideals than the house. We could use him and his ideas there.
