For your soccer mom friends: Pailin' wants to ban Harry Potter
For those who don't know the full reach of Harry Potter... He's not just big media; he's all media to kids. Parents like him because the books and flicks aren't awful. They'd hate to see him go.

She's a whole bag full of nuts. All we have to do is present her accurately and without exaggeration.

4. It'll be that already debunked one
You know, the one that was supposedly a list of all the books she wanted banned, that is coincidentally identical to the list of most complained about books.

Read the comments here. This is NOT a fact....yet.

http://digg.com/arts_culture/Palin_Wants_Harry_Potter_Banned

Before you blindly digg this up:
From Snopes.com:

Were any books censored banned? June Pinell-Stephens, chairwoman of the Alaska Library Association's Intellectual Freedom Committee since 1984, checked her files and came up empty-handed.
Pinell-Stephens also had no record of any phone conversations with Emmons about the issue back then. Emmons was president of the Alaska Library Association at the time.
Given that, as yet, there is no documentation of any books having been banished from the Wasilla library by Mayor Palin, or even of which books she may have had in mind when she broached the subject, whence comes the considerable register of tomes now being circulated as "the list of books Palin tried to have banned"? The purging of the selections enumerated here from a public library would surely outrage any educator or book lover, with the listing including classics of literature by authors from William Shakespeare to William Faulkner, works by popular contemporary writers such as Stephen King and J.K. Rowling, and even such seemingly bland reference works as Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary.
One obvious clue that this list must have been cobbled together from some source other than discussions that may have taken place in Wasilla in 1996 is that several of its entries (most notably the books in J.K. Rowling's popular series, which began in 1997) hadn't yet been published back then. In fact, versions of this list have been circulating since at least as far back as 1998, and is actually a collection of titles said to be "books banned at one time or another in the United States."

7. You REALLY need to provide a link for allegations like this
I think comments like this aren't usable. How can I post this on the 2 Harry Potter message boards if I don't have evidence?

This thread is useless !!!!!

5. this is a stupid bullshit myth that stubbornly refuses to die here.
Sorry, Palin never issued (to the best of our knowledge) any list of books she wanted to ban. She did ask the Wasilla librarian, when first elected as mayor, if the librarian would have any objections to banning books. Isn't that damning enough without just making shit up.

Maybe there should be a "debunked Palin thread" where people can check before bringing up the same old tired crap.

Anyone think it makes dems look stupid to have people spouting off easily debunked rumors.

Worse I think it will be like the boy that cried wolf. When something big does hit the public will be so desensitized by hundreds of bullshit debunked stories they will shrug it off.

11. exactly... I keep saying it's like Bush's ANG story...
There's copious amounts of evidence that he slacked off and didn't even bother to show up for a year or so, but because CBS screwed up with ONE forged document and that is now what your average American will think about if asked about Bush ANG service. "That was all made up by CBS, wasn't it?"

I guarantee you that there are people who are now going around "correcting" their friends and coworkers who mention Palin wanted to ban books, telling them, "Oh, didn't you see? That whole list thing was made up. She never wanted to ban books--that's just some lie somebody on the internet made up to make her look like a Nazi."
