People should not count on a Democratic Senate\House to stop McCain if he wins

Who knows what the political landscape will look like for the 2010 elections. While it may look good for the Democratic house\senate campaigns this Nov, even that could change.

Do not comfort yourself thinking the Dems will block McCain's radical plans (see healthcare) if he wins the White House. It is entirely possible for the house and senate to be reclaimed by the GOP in 2010 with a President McCain (or even more scary - a President Palin) at the helm.

I've seen plenty of smart educated moderates use this reasoning to explain their ambivalence to either Obama or McCain winning, but it is a short sighted premise.

The people I mention do not want the GOP in charge, but they are also weary of Dems controlling everything so they argue gridlock isn't a bad thing.

People need to be educated, made to look ahead and told they should not count on gridlock. Given a choice between Dem vs Rep governance more will choose Dem than if their choice is between Dem vs Rep vs gridlock.

6. I think McCain is more skilled than Bush at working congress

He understands how to put bills through congress, he's been in congress for years. He has a mountain of lobbyists working for him. I don't expect things like his healthcare plan to pass because I don't think he gives a crap about it. Look for him to push more wars and more military spending, but most likely do nothing domestically unless it's a concession to push through his desired programs.
