Rush Limbaugh and I live in completely opposite universes
Edited on Tue Sep-16-08 03:02 PM by leftist.
I've noticed for about a week that the momentum has shifted back in Obama's favour - polls have tightened up, McCain's bounce has subsided, and while the race nationally is likely a tie the electoral count still tentatively favours us (NM and PA are OURS). However listening to his show today it was all about how the Obama campaign is eroding, how we should expect an October surprise of Senator Clinton being named to the ticket to save the campaign (which he's likely just making up), and how McCain is in such a great position now because of Palin. I couldn't disagree more and I feel like I'm being very fair in my analysis. It was quite odd to listen to and I just felt like pointing it out.

Edited to fix the subject from parallel to opposite - I wrote it too quickly doh!

2. That's Rush's M.O..
When the ship starts sinking, start talking about how fantastic everything is.. and hopefully make your words turn into reality.

I try to listen to him every once in a while just to get a whiff of what fanatical freak-show Repugs are thinking now and again. I usually can go about 10 minutes (hopefully there is a commercial built into that time) before I throw up in my mouth and start screaming and punching my radio all while getting odd looks from the poor old lady in the car next to me (who is likely listening to the exact same thing and agrees with most of it).

So, for my heart, i don't listen to him very often. Self Delusion is one of his greatest gifts.

4. No, he knows what's going on.
I firmly believe that Rush is a bright guy (Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck, however, are morons). He knows that if the RW base begins to lose hope, the bottom will fall out on McCain. He has to keep them excited, and that's all he's doing. The more ridiculous he sounds, the more it means he's grasping at straws.

8. You're right, I agree.
I think that he's bright ONLY in the sense that he knows what he's doing i.e. attempting to attract and hold an audience. If the base is disheartened, they don't listen. So I agree with you. But the tone on these shows lately - for the past few months or so - seems to be out and out lying *to the audience* rather than just simple spin to the general population or empty "mark my words" or "see I told you so" type of arguments.

7. No, he's just paid to lie.
Rush doesn't believe any of those lies he tells. He's just an entertainer who gets paid to say a script.
