14. I just got my second letter from Carville and the DNC

asking for a contribution. I gave the first time I got a letter "from" him. With the check I included a short note explaining that, while I have voted and supported Dem candidates, I'd never given money before to either a candidate or the DNC. And I told them that it was the Dean campaign that got me to back up my mouth and my vote with money.

This time I just sent a note and said that as long as Mr. Carville continues to say very damaging things about a Dem candidate I'll hold off on the checks to the DNC and send 'em right to the candidate.

I got into a discussion before how Carville is just doing his job and wasn't a representative of the DNC while on Crossfire. Well, that may be all well and good, but it's my choice where I give my money and if the DNC is using him to shill for the party as a whole, what he says on national TV does make a difference.

I don't care if he offers constructive criticism (and in fact agreed with his "glory of the unexpressed thought" remark). But when he goes off on a Dem candidate the way he has with my candidate, I ain't exactly inspired to donate when I get a letter "from" him. Especially when the person he's trashing is the REASON some people may be donating to the DNC.

All in all, for someone who's supposed to be so bloody brilliant politically, I think it's waaaay dumb to be alienating what may well be an entire new segment of supporters and contributors.
