McCain could kill the bailout deal
ABC News' George Stephanopoulos reports: If Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain doesn't vote for the Bush administration's $700 billion economic bailout plan, some Republican and Democratic congressional leaders tell ABC News the plan won't pass. "If McCain doesn't come out for this, it's over," a Top House Republican tells ABC News. A Democratic leadership source says that White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten has been told that Democratic votes will not be there if McCain votes no -- that there is no deal if McCain doesn't go along.

2. he won't vote
and if it passes, he'll say the Dems want to spend taxpayer $$ for the fat cats. If it doesn't pass, he'll say they didn't care about boosting the economy.

11. Exactly. He's been AWOL from his day job all year. He didn't even show up for FISA.
Not much of a "leader".

6. Obama should vote against it and try to come up with an alternate plan
or push the Chris Dodd plan.

But he HAS TO VOTE AGAINST IT.

7. Yes. I like the idea of an alternative more conservative plan. But Obama needs majority of Dems...
plus some Repubs to make it happen.

8. I don't know how many Obama can persuade, but what will matter most is his vote.
If he votes against it and the party votes against it, then we can explore other options.

If he votes against it and the party votes for it, he might get some "maverick" cred of his own by going against his own party. It would still suck though.
