It is true that the rank and file GOPers would desperately like McCain to drop dead, resign, anything. They think they can win with Palin, in fact they are sure of it. They believe it with a religious degree of fervor.

So while I don't think Randi has any special insight into what is going on (because, like 99.9% of people who claim to be in the know, it's a lot easier to come up with a line about the meaning of something that's already happened rather than any kind of testable prediction about what's going to happen), I do think that the GOP have nothing to lose if McCain implodes and they relaunch it as Palin-Whoever.

If Randi turns out to be right, I'll start a thread saying how terribly wrong I was for underestimating her predictive powers.

Not going to happen. Romney has no campaign structure in place and McCain's team isn't going to work for Romney. McCain would never quit and there is no one with the authority/ability to force him out. Changing candidates at this point would create chaos and would make things even worse for candidates down ticket. Remember, McCain actually crushed Romney in the repub primary contest, getting more than twice as many votes. In fact, Romney came in third in terms of total delegates, behind Huckabee.
