US elections: Barack Obama's team believes he can win by a landslide
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/uselection2008/barackobama/3089433/Barack-Obamas-top-team-believes-he-can-win-White-House-by-a-landslide.html

"Insiders say that Mr Obama's apparent calm through an unusually turbulent election season is because he believes that his strength among first time voters in several key states has been underestimated, both by the media and by the Republican Party. "

I sure hope this is why the campaign has been so even-tempered!

1. meh
An entire article based on unnamed sources. Sounds like glorified gossip to me.

7. "They" didn't. But Sludge has it on his page so the "arrogance of Obama" is one of the daily TPs.
:)

9. Well...that explains a lot.
Maybe I shouldn't immediately believe every thing written. :-)

Thanks for that perspective.

4. I believe their internal polls are even better than the public polls.
And, they are mobilized. Something mcPOW couldn't do, even if he wanted to, know. He is running a dinosaur national campaign.

5. Don't believe the hype.

Folks like sludge and the telegraph like to promote the fiction that Team Obama are arrogant.

Actually, they are even-tempered because he's an even-tempered fellow and established early on that his campaign would be "drama free".

That being said, we are in a good position to be competitive ;) on November 4. Onward!

20. Me, too!
If the senior people in the Obama team really do think they'll win in a landslide, they ought to keep quiet about it. Aside from the fact that thinking that such a big victory is not only possible but likely breeds complacency, wouldn't it make a very jolly surprise for the Rethugs on the day after Election Day to find that they'd gotten buried under an avalanche?

Heh! Heh! Heh!

8. In other words, "Don't worry about voting, Obama supporters!"
He's going to win in a landslide, so if you have something better to do, like wash your hair or mow your lawn, don't worry about it! :eyes:

10. if a win becomes "obvious" white guilt could turn a victory into a landslide
there are plenty of non-overt racists out there who are subconsciously looking for a reason not to vote for the black guy. these are people who fundamentally are "uncomfortable" with blacks, but who can't acknowledge to themselves that they are racist because they know that overt racism is wrong, or at least, not something to be proud of.

however, if it becomes obvious that obama will win, then these same people might well vote FOR the black guy precisely so they can convince themselves they're not racists.

so there could well be a significant, uh, "surge" in support for obama once it become apparent that he'll win.

personally, i wouldn't bank on it, i'd be thrilled with a 269-269 tie that gets resolved by the new house in obama's favor.

that said, a landslide would be sawweeeeeeeeet!!

23. I'd change "will win" to "can win", but I agree with your point

The reason for the debate score is the Bill O'Reilly "I didn't see him say 'I want my iced tea MF'er'" shock to some folks.

11. Wonder how that strength of new voters relates to election fraud
and the huge numbers of votes (mostly Obama's) that will never get counted thanks to GOP tricks, caging and machine rigging. I sure hope they are paying close attention to this and not taking it lightly- it's horrifyingly serious business.

12. The groundwork has been laid.
If we all pull together and work hard, and if Obama keeps doing what he's been doing, a landside is likely in my opinion.

This bailout isn't going to help at all. But the Biden-Palin debate is a good opportunity for our side. And tying Bush to McCain is working great. People are (finally) sick of bush and all his friends.

14. florida
I think the best thing to take from this article might be this quote, "The poll numbers say Florida's back in play. "

If true that's a HUGE step toward 270!

17. Went To A Debate Party Given By A Local Doctor Last Friday AND
the invitations were sent out to Undecideds, Repugs, Independents and Democrats. Consensus in this VERY VERY Red County... LANDSLIDE for Obama!

This county is classified as 2nd as far as RED goes. After the debate most Democrats felt McCain held his own and we talked on into the early morning hours, still the fact that McCain didn't "one up" McCain was a very deciding point! Most there, and there were quite a few made the decision that it was Obama's to lose, and that he will only gain MORE GROUND as times goes on!

One other fact... some were betting AND hoping that Palin won't even debate Biden! They said that would be the VERY BEST THING she could do. While some of us eagerly wait to see how it will go, others thought she might have the "vapors" the night before!

Wonder if she can pull off a winner, even going in as one who only needs to "be there" and that alone says far more than anything. Just being there makes her viable??? I missed the boat on that one!

Some here in this county have redoubled their efforts to make THIS COUNTY BLUE! Almost an impossible task! I don't think it's been blue in 60 years! That would say "take that" in a humongous way! I see very few McCain bumpers, and many of us Democrats are out EVERY FRIDAY waving signs and getting good feed back! But I won't bet that this place will GO BLUE!

The county is Sarasota, FL... the place that lost 18,500 votes in 2006, elected Cruella Harris former Secretary of State as it's Representative and then Vern Buchanan only won by 369 votes in '06 when the votes vanished! Probably still floating somewhere in the bay!

21. yeah yeah yeah
good anecdotal and good unverified "internal poll numbers" evidence makes me think this country isn't completely dumb. Palin is losing ground with all of her gaffes and McCain hasn't polled the same since his "economy is strong" comment!

22. I Will Say I NEVER Even Heard Anyone Say Anything About McLoonery
regarding his not looking at Obama, or how he looked side to side. For some reason we were more focused on the "substance" of what was said and how it was delivered. Of course, that could be construed as "looking" to some extent, but it was more on delivery and substance.

Most said McCain did better than we thought he would (Democrats) but when I got home at around 2:00 AM, I was very surprised to see the "talking heads" giving won/lost numbers showing Obama won by 50 to 38 or something like that. I thought to myself, "what did WE miss?" But as I said, we didn't notice McLoonery deference and evidence of ignoring that Obama wasn't there.

That gives even MORE credence to the fact that Obama is up higher here in Florida!!

18. This is a lot classier than that "Everybody, Chill the Fuck Out" picture
But it's the same message. He's got a plan and a field game to run.

But Obama never ever says the word "fuck".
