All these sad sacks predicting Dean can't win. Republicans think Dean can't beat bushshite*, so many Democrats here think Dean can't beat bushshite. Republicans are lying and some Democrats, well its one thing to be for a candidate other than Dean, but to say any one of these Democratic candidates can't beat the worst pResident in America's history is flat out uninformed. Dean will give the party a landslide loss and could even cost the Senate. I know some here don't care as long as their candidate runs but I do. Locally it doesn't matter much since Dean should be able to carry CA but he4 could show really bad in states like SD and cost Daschle his seat. Forget about NC, SC, GA and FL Senate seats and maybe even LA. This is what a Dean Disaster looks like.

but Jimmy Carter annoyed a lot of people, too, especially when he became the front-runner. Other candidates thought he was self-righteous and felt that he had a corner on political morality.

People were all over Clinton as well for being a draft-dodging womanizer who would never get elected.

Every candidate has problems. Dean's are no worse than anyone else's. I just don't remember anyone ever hearing anyone making quite so big a deal about about it with a qualified centrist candidate.

In the recent Time/CNN poll (Dec 30-Jan 1), Dean outpolls every Democratic candidate against Bush. It's Bush 51- Dean 45. In comparison, it's Bush 53 - Clark 43 - a 10 point margin.

If people keep saying Dean is unelectable, it doesn't make it so. It doesn't matter how much they repeat it- the facts are on the table and they show that Dean has a good shot at Bush, and the best chance of any Democrat.
