Neither one is my first choice, but I would have no problem should either one get the nomination. I'd proudly vote for either. And if they comprised the same ticket, I'd be proud to vote for them collectively as well.
The more I listen to Clark and Dean the more impressed I am. Neither are perfect, nor do they have the same vision that I do for the U.S. and world, yet both are good men. Smart. Passionate. Impressive. I don't believe much of the harshest criticisms that are lobbied against both men here on DU. But critiques are critiques and not many people here on DU pull any punches. I've seen flame wars get ugly. Too ugly for my taste. Both men are excellent candidates in my book.
I've heard Dean speak in person and when I walked out of that room he made me want to go out and capture the world. That ability to touch people is why he's got such a movement behind him. His candidacy, energy and style is a great thing for our party. I truly believe that.
Clark is articulate, intelligent and has some flat-out sick credentials. He speaks several languages, is a Rhodes Scholar and the former Supreme Allied Commander of Nato. The more I see him talk and the more I read about his plans, the more I am awed by the guy. He brings a certain type of scholarship to the field that, I believe, challenges everybody else to be on their game intellectually. He just comes off as a leader to me.
Both do.
I feel strongly about all our candidates really. I'm very passionate about Kucinich. I believe he's the best candidate, because he fits my vision of the U.S. and world most closely. I like Edwards and Kerry quite a bit too. Kucinich will get my vote, but I recognize that Clark and Dean - who have the most support here on DU - are both something special too. I hope many of you feel the same way.
I think all around we are on the verge of something special in our party. On the verge of a movement. The type of movement that changes our country and the world. Something that has not occured since the great civil rights movements of the '60s. Dean and Clark - and those others running as well - are the talent that is going to help us get that movement rolling. Thank you for reading this if you made it this far.
