In 2000 Bush carried independents by 3 points

In 2000 Bush did better among Republicans than Gore did among Democrats. In 2000 Bush carried independents by 3 points. In 2000 Bush lost the popular vote by half a point.

How is that possible?

The answers lie in Ruy's latest fact-filled and inspiring installment of DONKEY RISING, entitled "Kerry Widens Lead in Battleground States" (During the Republican convention Kerry actually moved UP to 50-45 in the 16 battleground states, but who would have known?)
