"Roms wasn't burnt in a day" on Scarborough (MSNBC)

That's the title of his new book and he's very critical of the GOP. (That is not a type, he is dissing his party.)

He has Pat Buchanan and Pete Peterson on and these three conservative Repubs are
talking about the national debt, the deficit, etc. I'm glad to see it getting out there, glad to see some in the GOP saying publicly that Bush* is no conservative when it comes to government spending.

Pete Peterson, author of "Running on Empty" & former Nixon Commerce Secretary, said:

"We've outdone LBJ, who was accused of being 'guns and butter.' We're guns and butter and tax cuts."

(Of course, he went on to say Democrats were worse about spending but not in a mean way, just stating what he sees as fact. You know, kids, most Republicans used to be able to discuss issues and how they disagreed with Democrats without attacking Dem's character. That was before Newt Gingrich, of course. Back before cell phones, media monopolies, and other modern "improvements."

The subtitle of his book is something about how both Dems & Repubs are bankrupting our country's future.

more to come. . .

1. Scarborough and Buchanan are both TRUE conservatives.
Both of them piss me off greatly most of the time, but I applaud the fact that they both refuse to take the Rove/dumbya party line on the issue of the deficit. dumbya is the LEAST fiscally conservative pResident this country has ever had.

4. They consider themselves "Reagan Republicans"
Edited on Tue Sep-07-04 09:50 PM by RatTerrier
Though they disregard his then-record deficits and the 1987 stock market crash.

Scarboy was pimping his book on Lou Dobbs today, and I had to do a double take. I further did a double take when both of them started bashing Bush as coddling too much to corporations.

I get the opinion that neither of them like either party, and consider them too similar in their methods.

Scarboy also lashed out at Clinton for increasing government spending by 3%, disregarding the strong 90s economy and the budget surplus.

Whatever. :eyes:

2. Anyone who thinks a devotee of Reagan is in favor of deficit reduction
Edited on Tue Sep-07-04 09:41 PM by elperromagico
doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.

The Class of '94 never believed in balancing the budget. That was a load of shit, a ploy to get them elected. And it worked.

Time and time again, the Democrats have demonstrated that they are better for the economy.

3. bigger share of the pie
Edited on Tue Sep-07-04 09:48 PM by brickgate
Congress is by design a socialist institution. It is each congressman's duty to represent the interests of his constituents, which means getting as big a share as possible from the big federal pie. My corporate clients care more about their mileage programs than the cost of the airline ticket because they do not pay for the tickets out of their own pockets. It is all human nature. At least the democrats try to get a decent share for the needy in stead of giving billions to corporate welfare receivers. CEOs of the airlines make millions while their airlines going bankrupt screwing the investors and then ask for government handout.

6. "Bush inherited a 150 billion surplus and turned it into a 430 billion
deficit!" - Scarborough. He also faulted Bush for not vetoing any bills. However he said nothing about the big giveaway to rich people, by Bush and congressional republicans reducing their taxes.

9. More like a $230BB Surplus and closer to a $500BB deficit.
They really don't want to do the math to see that the big winner in this picture: the wealthiest 5% who got the lion's share of the Treasury giveback.
