Roy Neel Joins Dean for America as a Senior Advisor BURLINGTON--Dean for America announced yesterday that Roy Neel, a long-time aide to Vice President Al Gore and former Deputy Chief of Staff to President Bill Clinton, has joined the campaign full-time as a senior advisor as of January 1.
"I'm honored that Governor Dean has asked me to join a political campaign that is changing our country. This country desperately needs new, positive leadership, and it's been exciting for me to watch as Governor Dean continues to bring thousands of new Americans into the political process," said Neel, who is currently an adjunct professor of political science at Vanderbilt University.
"Roy brings an incredible amount of talent, insight and experience to the table, and I look forward to drawing upon his wisdom as this campaign continues," Governor Dean said.
From 1977 to 1994, Neel served in key roles in Al Gore's Washington operations, becoming Chief of Staff for Senator and later Vice President Gore. Prior to leaving the White House, he served as President Clinton's Deputy Chief of Staff, responsible for coordinating all policy and communications activities for the President. Neel also managed the Vice President's campaign in 1992 and was a central figure in the Clinton-Gore transition that followed that successful election.
During 2000, Neel was Director of Vice President Gore’s presidential transition planning. During the post-election challenge in Florida, he managed the unprecedented transition efforts for Gore.
