Media View Kitty Kelley's Bush Book With Caution
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A3665-2004Sep7.html

It is the book that some Republicans have been worrying about for weeks, filled with lurid allegations by a celebrity biographer whose controversial reputation has only boosted her sales.

Kitty Kelley's volume on the Bush family won't be published until next week, but the White House communications director
yesterday dismissed the book as "garbage" and a Republican National Committee spokeswoman said journalists should treat it as "fiction." With the author booked for numerous television interviews -- including three straight mornings on NBC's "Today," starting Monday--"The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty" is certain to generate media attention in the heat of a presidential campaign.

Peter Gethers, vice president of Random House and Kelley's editor, said the publisher's chief counsel and Kelley's own lawyer went
over the book "with a fine-toothed comb."

1. Given the choice, I'll pass on Kitty Kelley's book
I'll read the one by Kevin Phillips instead.

2. Our Dear Media
If this had a Regenry book about the Clintons, it would get 24/7 free plugs on every cable channel, and the NY Times and Post would be writing endless exposes based on it.

4. Hurricane Kitty Churns Off The Bunnypants Coast
Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 08:58 AM by IMRadioactive
I just love the slow build this thing is developing. Kinda like the slimeboat scenario. You first heard about the revelations and how the media was "soul searching" about how to deal with this thing...then BAM...all over the place.

Maybe someone can tell me (pardon my laziness) who is publishing this book. That has a lot to do with if Kelley gets on the tube or not. So will sales. If this hits #1, she'll be "A List" on all the talk shows and Larry King can go suck his nitro tablets.

Plus, Ms. Kelley surely will have some friendly places to pop up on. I wouldn't be surprised to see her pop up on The Daily Show or with Bill Mahrer.

Plus don't underestimate our friends on the right wing. Nothing stirs this hive worse than a Bunnypants hater. Look at the hatred they show towards Michael Moore. Kitty Kelley will now face this paranoia machine...and if you don't think this can do us more good than us pushing this story, think again.

Now if this is timed with Barnes 60 minutes appearance (any word on that today??) and this latest AWOL revelation, this story is starting to get some interesting legs. Will this finally open the floodgates on what happened to our manchild in 1972?

You gotta bet sales of Maalox are going up in RNCland these days! Serves those bloodsuckers right!

9. That's Bertlesman...Not One Of My Faves...
Here's what they own...

But they have a lot of printing interests...and having all these tenacles means they should have lots of bookers working the radio and TV shows.

10. At least they're foreign-owned
Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 09:16 AM by RatTerrier
Not as whorish to the Bush regime. It's a German company. Better this than Time-Warner. At least we know the Germans don't like Bush.

Seems all the big publishing houses are conglomerate-owned these days.

11. Bartlesman Is Also Canadian
I thought I read that they were also making a play for Sony's entertainment holdings.

BMG is a large media monster...but I didn't see cable holdings or broadcast outlets in the porfolio. T/W & News Corp (Faux/Murdoch) have these and thus the conduit for Regerny (or whatever that slime operation is) and other wingnut publishing houses that then feed their cable shows and so the spin cycle begins.

CBS/Infinity is the interesting one to watch. Damn, I posted this last Spring. They definitely tilt toward Democrats, and looks like it's even more so with Mel Karamzin (a very strong Democrat) gone and Les Moonves in charge.

6. The Media doesn't have to believe it....
they just have to talk about it. I don't think most of the mainstream media believed the SBVT...but they kept talking and talking about it. If it's a story, they run with it. Even if it's an untrue story.

8. Yeees--according to that report there are media who will be
interviewing her. Of course, I imagine the Today show and the like have a mission to totally destroy her and burn her at the stake on live television. But the more they yack, the more it wets the people's appetite to read it/discuss it. In fact, I wonder how many who watch the Today show seldom read a book but this will sound like a big edition of the National Enquirer and they will want to see what's in it. Rumors will fly. People will read. And again the Bush White House will have to be in deny, deny mode like every goddamn else thing that has gone on for over three years!!! They can be well assured that these intelligent, political books that have come out (Clarke as example)will be ignored by the peasants; but this is just the kind of appetite their media friends have created in the peasants and it will now be hard to keep a lid on them.
