Once again - Don't bother taxing the rich - they'll just get out of it!!
Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 11:00 AM by hatrack
From today's Kansas City Star:

"Speaking before thousands of Bush partisans at a ticket-only event at the sunshine-drenched high school rally, Bush said taxing rich Americans won't work because they can afford to hire accountants and lawyers to reduce their tax burdens.

'They dodge. You pay,' Bush said to loud applause."

EDIT

"Bush Touches On Terror, Taxes In Missouri Stops", Steve Kraske, KC Star, 8 September 2004, Page A1.

Fucking moron - pound, POUND him on this bullshit!!

EDIT: spelling

2. Then why doesn't the IRS spend more resources going after them?
Hell...they are more than happy to audit "service" occupations.

3. Someone needs to point out that "they" includes the BFEE.
I'd love to ask him if he is speaking from personal experience on dodging taxes.

4. It's really weird he is saying this still
totally bizarre.

I suggest a question to Bush should be: "So as a rich American how did you dodge paying taxes?"

5. So
just bend over and get fucked. He should be beaten over the head with that one.
Folks, I think their convention bounce is about to vanish, between this comment, the lousy economy, 1,000 dead in Iraq, Graham's book and the renewed focus on *'s alleged military service in Alabama.
Stay brave and stay sharp!

6. Bushe's base is too smart to pay taxes
Kerry needs to jump on this BS. It sure is frustrating that so many people will buy into this subterfuge of rich people evading taxes. I guess we should just legalize murder since rich people are so good at getting away with that also.

show surrogate discussion. Bushco is REALLY LEADING WITH THEIR CHIN on this one, and deserves the big uppercut.

11. The repugs have spouted this bullshit since Reagan....
But the plain fact of the matter is that Republicans (and far fewer Democrats than should be doing it) DON'T EVEN TRY to "soak the rich" when it comes to income taxes.

Who the hell puts the loopholes in the tax code? Is is the IRS? Is it the citizens? NO!!!! It's the goddamned Republican-controlled executive and legislative branches of the fed!

The sad part is, those who are BOTH cynical and ignorant are all too willing to believe this BS. Why? because they all hope someday to be filthy rich themselves, and thereby dodge income tax.

The GOP: The party of filthy, greedy pigs, who are either wealthy or wish to be, and who say "Fuck you!" to the rest of the world.

12. Here is something that will resonate with Bush:
Don't bother taxing them.
Don't bother drafting them.
Don't bother prosecuting them.

Let us have a new Constitution that says they are above the Law. Let us have a new segregation based not on color but on the size of your wallet.

13. so how does this explain...
...why he needed to cut the rich's taxes to 'stimulate the economy'?? if they dodge paying taxes anyway, why was it necessary to cut them?

this man truly makes no sense.

16. No wonder he won't accept a town hall meeting debate format!!
"Mr. President, you've said repeatedly during your campaign that the rich hire lawyers and accountants to avoid paying their taxes. If this is true, and if they already avoid paying, then why is it necessary to continue cutting their taxes?"

Yeah, he'll be taking unscreened questions about the same time I start singing at the Met.

14. Enforcing anti-discrimination regulations doesn't work.
The mega-corporations just hire more lawyers.

Enforcing child pornography laws doesn't work.
The pornographers just hire more lawyers.

Going after murderers doesn't work.
They just dye their hair, shave, and hire more lawyers.

Pointing out the lies of Republican politicians doesn't work.
They just hire more spin doctors.

Or so they'd like us to believe!

17. Flat Tax the Rich.
If, as President Bush says, the rich "dodge", then get rid of dodging as an action. A flat tax takes care of that.

20. I'm gonna save 'em the dodge: YOU PAY
Yes, folks, tax avoidance is the sport of kings.

This man has the morals of an alleycat; the carrot of being rich someday is the only thing that holds his schtick together.

It's one's duty to one's fellow man to pay taxes, and those who benefit more should pay more. It's not "fairness" or anything like that, it's just billing for services rendered. The rich get more from the society, and should pay for those services.

There's always been a dark side to the American Persona, but never has it been as out in the open and lauded as it is today; the Reagan years--ugly and depressing though they were--were nothing compared to the New Selfishness.

taxing the rich creates jobs . . . Bush even said it (the rich hire lawyers and accountants to evade paying taxes).

25. Let's go back to a 70% tax rate on net income
for incomes in excess of $200,000; no loopholes, no exceptions! I recall years ago the tax rate was that high. Since Bush has turned a $150 billion surplus into a $430 billion deficit, I say let us go back to this rate until we dig ourselves out of debt. I for one do NOT wish to pass this debt along to my grandchildren!

Clearly the Republicans won't go for anything that drastic, so let's give them their walking papers and elect Democrats to congress!
