I do NOT love Obama
I respect him.

He is the best choice for these troubled times. He is the canidate with the ability to inspire as we try and clean up the incredible mess left to us by the right.

Because in the end, he will make mistakes. All presidents do. But if you work from a position of information, then whatever decision you make, was the best possible, given the information at hand.

I do not HATE John McCain.

But I do not respect him.

He works from his gut, and therefore makes uniformed decisions that are dangerous for such a large and powerful country such as ours

I find the choice very simple.

4. I DO hate John McCain and Sarah Palin. The Rolling Stone article *alone* is enough to make me hate
McPuke. And I hate Palin because to me she is a poster child for what's wrong with America, and represents EVERYTHING I'm against and vice-versa. I don't think hate is 'good', but these people - it all started for me when the fundamentalists 'stole' one of my brothers - MADE me hate 'em.

7. Just remember: liberals fall in love - conservatives fall in line.

8. I find liberals basically rational, in their support.
Don't get me wrong, we are all passionate at times, but liberals are able to listen to another point of view without sticking their fingers in their ears

Liberals fall in line for nothing. They go by choice. But conservatives, especially this latest base brand, are completely irrational. They go against their own stated values to hang on to anything that has an R attached to it.

9. I don't think that is necessarily true...
There are people on both sides who will "fall in line" without thinking the issues totally through.
There are people on both sides who may at least attempt to consider all points before making a decision.

I don't think that it's easy or fair to generalize that Conservatives are more one way and Liberals the other.

11. brendan it has been an all out war on the
intellectual conservatives for the last 8 years. The base of the republican party at this juncture, is pure emotion.

The followers of Rush Limbaugh, have been stalwart in there outing of Rinos, .. hatred of thoughtful republicans. This was a war that has been waged with in, and basically has destroyed the best of the republican party

In the mean time, the democrats, have nurtured all sides of their party. That is why we are where we are. Not out of love of one canidate, but finding the best voice for our issues.

12. Mostly, you're correct. However...
I get a lot of grief from many other liberals when I let people know I am a Roman Catholic.
I can't stand the fact that most all RC-ers are vilified by a good majority of the people on this board.
It's getting to the point I avoid religion discussions here all together.
Liberals tend to fall lock-step into the belief that everything and everyone associated with the Church is evil.
Not really very "nurturing," if you ask me.

14. brendan I can say this with complete honesty.. I have never been attacked for my religious beliefs
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 10:41 AM by peacetrain
on this site. I am a UCC,(United Church of Christ) my husband is RC,(Roman Catholic) and my son is now a UM (United Methodist) . I have posted the fact that I am a Christian dozens of times.

No one has ever attacked me for my beliefs. Sometimes people will let loose on the Church in general or leadership, for stances but not the individual parishioner.

I am a very strong Christian. Barack is a very strong Christian. People all over the board are supporting him, not because he is a Christian, but because he best amplifies there political stance.

If Barack were a Buddhist, or of no religion at all, I would support him, because he best amplifies that political point of view that I have.

So I would not take personally a question about doctrine as an attack on you personally as an RC

16. Brendan- As a fellow RC, I think it is not the Church
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 10:49 AM by bluedawg12
but rather, Church political policy that gets criticism.

I don't think anyone here would argue with the notion of a Triune God, transubstantiation, The Assumption, etc.

It's when Bishop's stand up and tell voters how to vote, and of course these days that would tend to favor RW'ers, that folks take acception.

I avoid religious discussions because mostly they are never about religion, cannon, or dogma, it's about social political issues and I prefer to discuss those under the rubric of Caesar and not Church.

Pax-

10. Though TahitiBut, I do think there is a big differnece between
democrats and liberals. If you are a liberal, you are most likely a democrat. But you can be a democrat and all over the place politically. I am thinking of blue dogs to pumas. :hi:

18. Nor I
I was never an early or die-hard Obama supporter, I went Kucinich, Gore, Edwards, Obama. I don't think he'll change the world but I do think he'll be markedly better than the evil bastards in the other party.

I don't hate John McCain, I pity him. I think his mind is going and he has become a confused old man who doesn't even realise that he's sold out every principle he once had.

I fear Sarah Palin.
