Obama victory will launch age of reason

October 29, 2008: If there is one reason Senator Barack Obama must win it is the momentum of enlightenment he will unleash on all races of the World. Obama’s victory will showcase the fact that in a fair playing field, it matters less what your colour or race is; only your talent and character will determine how far you can go up the ladder. For Africa, Obama’s victory will help destroy the “it is our turn to eat” politics.

One clear lesson the American political structure will give to Africa is the role of strong institutions that keep the country stable even in times of crisis. Unlike in Africa where political victory for an individual translates to “ethnic chiefs” grabbing and plundering national resources; Africa’s expectations will translate to great lessons when USA under Obama will pursue its interests as usual.

Building institutions that are respected by all citizens ought to be the primary goal of a given country. Kenya’s post-election chaos offers an excellent example of a country with patched-up institutions hurriedly put in place at Independence that have failed to meet expectations of the citizenry.

A country with no credible institutions has no national interests; it becomes difficult to rally people to develop a country that has no national brand and or identity. Africa is likely to use the momentum created by Obama’s quest for presidency to re-examine its sense of identity and confidence levels.

and common sense and pragmatism hold sway.

I absolutely cannot wait.

3. Not quite. He'd have to ditch the religiosity for that to happen.

5. Why? As Springsteen said yesterday..... Faith.
We need someone with his faith.

I guess this is a debate better to be had later on though.

Rock on! :-)

8. Religious faith is the enemy of reason
It's not politically possible now, and it may never be in America, but one of the most important things we need if we are to have an age of reason is a leader who publicly rejects religious belief.

10. Ok. David.
I understand what you are talking about.

I am European.

But, I still think that faith has a place.

And real faith is not in opposition to science. Not at all.

But, anyhow.

Would love to discuss this another day,

Let's to it sometime after wednesday :-)
